What is the best amp to pair with a single DXI104 dvc. I am new to car audio and just want a good clean sound.

Youll want a good mono amp thatll deliver ~300 watts RMS at 2 ohms. As for which one, itll depend on how much youre wanting to spend. Something like this Rockford Fosgate Punch 300 for $200 shipped would do just fine. If you think youll eventually add another sub, then youll want something thatll do a little more and handle a 1 ohm load.

Thanks Mac! I was looking at that amp and almost bought it. A rep with crutchfield said the alpine mrp-m500 was the best option for that sub. What are your thoughts on that amp?

That would work too but I dont trust Alpine's amps that much. Seems like there are a ton of complaints online about them having issues like turn on/off pops, hiss and other crap. These are usually associated with the Class D amps of theirs and their V Power amps like that one are usually pretty solid though. Ive owned a couple of their V Power amps and they worked great. Still, Id rather have the RF for $50 more and some peace of mind that its a better built amp with less chance of noise and other issues.

Thanks man! One more question for you. Is 500 watts too much for that speaker? It's rated at 270 RMS, but I heard you can push it further than the RMS rating. RF makes that same amp in 500 watts.

Think of it like a car. A Corvette can do 150 MPH but it can also cruise down the road at 35 MPH as you go get groceries. Same with an amp. A 500 watt amp isnt making 500 watts all the time. If you set the gains properly and use common sense with the volume control, a 500 watt amp will give you nice headroom for that sub and let you push it to its full potential.

Thatll be a little tougher cause thatll be a 1 ohm load so youll need an amp thatll put out 800 or more and is stable at 1 ohm. There are plenty thatll do that but theyll be a little pricey.

Wow! 1200 RMS x1 @ 1 ohms for under $300?! Cant beat that. Sounds like the way to go.
