is peerless equal to sl1000?

I replaced the blown tweeters in my 5jrs with Peerless tweeters from Parts Express when I got the speakers. At the time, I didn't have enough spare money for the factory SL1000 replacements. Question is, do they sound better than the peerless, and is it worth the money now to order a set? I think these peerless ones sound great, but I might just not know what I'm missing.

Can anyone clue me in?

Thanks.

If there's one thing I thought this board would be good for, it's people's opinions :p

unless i am mistaken, the sl1000 was a 1" silk dome tweet made by peerless. I think i remember seeing a silk dome peerless tweeter on parts express, is this the same one you bought? kind of curious if it is the same one or not, could be. lets see what russman finds out.

The peerless looks the same as the SL1000 except that the dome is clear on the SL1000 and black on the peerless.

Part of an email conversation I had with Ken -

"Some of the earliest Monitor series speakers, the Monitor 5, the Monitor 7 and Monitor 10 used the HF1000 tweeter. I believe this was based on a general 1" Phillips design. We sold the "665" as the replacement for many years until Peerless' retooling costs prevented this."

Basically, the Peerless is a good drop-in match - but you already know that!

    Cheers,
    Russ

What's this HF1000? Is that the same as the SL1000? Because the old tweeters were very plainly marked "sl1000".

Kind of interesting to think about what these speakers were put through before I got them, though. When I got them, both tweeters were blown, one had the fuse blown on it, too, and when I took them apart, I found out that one of the tweeters was a warranty replacement unit. Someone tried to play these loud with a crappy receiver, which is why they ended up being sold for $15 at a thrift store.....

The things people do to good equipment. And to top it off, whoever had these previously is probably sworn against Polk because of the blown tweets and (assumed) bad sound coming from his system.....
