Steve - I just picked up a Cambridge Audio A300 for my step-dad, its a Christmas present. I hope he really likes it, because I was going to suggest he get a nice CDP also...that would be perfect. I wish I could do something now, but it depends on him. I will drop you a line after Christmas, if it is still available.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Doro-
Sounds good. It's been very hard to "move" this puppy, and its a shame as you can tell by the pic, it's in perfect condition. I'm not necessarily in a hurry, so if you can tell me at some point that you want me to hold it for you--its no problem.

Someone should REALLY snatch this player up.

I'd be all over it in a heartbeat, but I've got too many players right now, last count was 7 (decent ones at least).

Thanks Russman, I can't believe how hard of a time I'm having selling this thing, even at my original price.

    Must be the holidays.

If you don't NEED the cash, maybe you should just keep it, vs practically GIVING it away.

Hell, you could use it for background music / general use, and keep the hours on your new player low.

    Just a thought.

Santa is bringing me a new player for Christmas (CEC CD 3300), so I don't need to sell the Cambridge. This will be the lowest I'll take the price; otherwise it will go in my guest bedroom with my Yamaha receiver and Pinnacle CGT towers.

I think Dorokusai may want it after Christmas.

    Steve,

I'm awfully tempted but yes it is the holidays! ;) and I'm wondering if such beast would be suitable for my rig or actually would be rig be suitable for such a beast?

Quandry: Receiver is a Pioneer VSX 710 (mid grade consumer line). It's a nice starter AV but would this be sufficient to let the 500SE shine? I'm not sure. What's your opinion?

I wish you luck selling this though.

    regards

    Dave

Sure. The Cambridge would be suitable for just about anything. It's fairly "forgiving" and has a "british" character to its sound, which is to say the warm side of nuetral.

    Well...it's ME :D

This was just TOO GOOD of a deal to pass up. I had been looking for a new CDP to replace an old Sony. I had hoped to find a new SCD C555ES but they are nowhere to be found. I had considered a CDP CA70ES but Oade "thinks" they may be getting some more in "sometime" but they aren't sure. I had finally decided on a NAD 521BEE for around $240 plus shipping. I have heard the 521i on several occasions and had a C320BEE integrated for a while and figured I'd give the NAD a try. Then Steve dropped his price again...I use Audioquest Sidewinders anyway so there is $40 and shipping would be about $15 so I figure even though I've never heard this machine it's only costing me $160 and WHY NOT?

Shack, you got a good transport, and a good DAC, bottom line. Consider the fit / finish a bonus.

Since no one else has piped in, I want dibs, when and if - ok?

    Congrats!

    Cheers,

and....if the way Steve responded to emails and such is any indication.... this should be a very smooth transaction (very much the opposite of a recent fiasco here on the forum!)

Believe me, you won't get rid of it. I transitioned from an ES Sony changer when I bought the Cambridge, and here's what I noticed:

Although the Sony had an ever so slight edge in the "slam" department (an attribute Sony's are known for), the absolute resolution and treble clarity definitely was the D500SEs' forte. Although at first I felt the Sony dug a little deeper on bass, I later realized it was the "control" that the D500se had on bass, not the depth that was the real perception. The D500se also had a smoother, less in-your-face midrange quality--making it a very listenable player. It just seemed like the Cambridge was extracting every last bit off the CD, incredible details I just hadn't noticed before were apparent. This player pulls off an almost perfect balance of being articulate, yet smooth.

Your gonna love it, especially if your system leans to the "analytical" side.

NOTE: You may want to invest in the mapleshade products I reviewed in the "2-Channel Audio" forum. They really allow the D500se to perform at its best. A very inexpensive upgrade that was worth every penny.
