I haven't gone lately..... used to go every day, then every week...now lucky to go once a month with the kid. I've made a lot of finds, and subsequently a ton of extra cash with audio finds at GoodWill. My Klipsch Forte II's came from there @ $70 for the pair.

Well...I'm not sure if it's an SACD, but there's an original master recording, by Mobile Fidelity, of Beck's Sea Change. It's an amazing disc, remastered or not, and the remaster had gotten pretty great reviews.

I love that album. I've been looking for a decently priced copy of the SACD for a while. They are pricey on eBay.

You won't be disappointed in the Redbook version done by Mofi. I have both the Redbook and DVD-A of Sea Change and they both sound stellar. LINK

Have never found any decent records at Goodwill, least not what I wanted to listen to. Get a few CD's
now and then. I like Pink Floyd and may get the "wish you were here" SACD. Allman Bros. Fillmore East
    should be good too. Thanks.

What's interesting about the MFSL redbook 24K gold disc (of Beck's Sea Change) is that it's a different mix of the album than the SACD or "normal" CD. I kind of like the alternate mix better than the "normal". The SACD does sound very good, but the MFSL sounds stellar for a redbook CD.

Also, the MFSL SACD of The Band's "Music From Big Pink" sounds excellent. Along with Roxy Music's "Avalon" although it's pricey now. Pretty much any MFSL SACD sounds good, IMO. Also, a number of the Japanses SHM-SACD's sound very nice such as Steely Dan's "Aja" or Cream's "Wheels Of Fire" to name a couple.

At the risk of sounding like a complete fool, can I play redbook discs in a normal CD player?

Yes, you can. A "redbook disc" is a normal CD.
