Lsi25 - Totally By-Pass the amp?
I searched before posting but never found a clear answer...
Is it possible to by-pass the built-in amp and run the subs directly off a dedicated amp? Granted I know I could do this if I opened up the cabinet and rewired it a bit but is that really necessary?
Thank you,
Kelly

You can, but you will need an amp with gain control and an adjustable crossover."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

You will need to disconnect the woofer from the internal amp, and attached the leads of the woofer to the bottom set of binding posts; ensure that those posts are only connected to the woofers, and that the top posts are only connected only to the mid woofers and tweeter. Then run signal out from your preamp to the new crossover (with appropriate low pass set), signal out from the crossover to the new amp, and power out of your woofer amp to the bottom set of binding posts now connected only to the woofers. You will effectively make a pair of LSi15s with an unused plate amp, and significantly lower the value of your LSi25s.
Why not just get a pair of LSi15s that are designed for what you have in mind? -
I've been reading posts here and else where that the subs should be upgraded in LSi15s ( http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?89529-DB840-sub-in-LSI15-s-replace-the-stock-8-quot-driver!!!!!&highlight=db840) is one example.
I will be ordering my speakers today (9hrs left on sale on ebay from Polk directly). The new LSi25's are almost the same cost as refurbished LSi15's with the sub upgrades. I'm liking the idea of a larger sub plus the built in amp, but I'd like to know if I can bypass the built in amp if needed/desired. I know I could by just bypassing the wires internally, just wasn't sure if that was the only way.
Not trying to start another LSi15 verse LSi25 thread but to me the price difference isn't that great once subs get upgraded.---
