Will Pioneer VSX-820-K Adequately Power My New Speakers?

Good-day!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have decided to upgrade my old Polk RM6005 satellites to something with hopefully better sound.

I purchased a Polk CS2 centre, Polk Monitor 60s for front and Polk Monitor 30s for rear surrounds. I know many people aren't fond of the PSW10 Sub, but I have it from the package I purchased the RM6005s from, so I am not going to upgrade that until later (maybe not at all if I am happy with it.)

Currently, I have a Pioneer VSX-820-K http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Pioneer+Receivers/VSX-820-K that is about a year (or two) old that I am hoping will adequately power my new system.

Does anyone have a similar setup and can offer some set-up tips or an overall review?

Do you think that this receiver will be able to drive the Monitors and CS2 adequately?

I hope I made a good choice in the Monitors and CS2. I am hoping that it blows the RM6005s out of the water!

Thanks for your help!

    Great! Thanks for replying, specd_out!

I've never owned anything other than HTIB speakers, so I am hoping I notice a big difference.

you will. set your crossovers for 60 80 or 100hz which ever you like best. I dont know if your model has mcacc if it does set them all to small, do the calibration. and make sure the AVR is set for direct mode and you will be in good shape

You should be fine. Imhave that as,e amp and like it a lot. I would recommend using the mcacc to set the speaker distances and general levels and then fine-tuning to taste. The mcacc will definitely set you front speakers as 'large' and disable y our subwoofer so you will have to change that. I think I have my sub crossover set at 60hz and it works really well.

    Enjoy!

Thanks guys. Appreciate the advice a lot, as I am pretty much a noob when it comes to this stuff.

Any advice on speaker wire gauge? Do you use banana plugs or not?

Hopefully my speakers come in soon. I've never ordered from the Polk eBay site, but I am hoping they ship quickly!

Run the front Monitor 60's as full range, I don't think the sub will help you much. I understand the pkg deal, but I would sell it and get something a little more substantial. It is the weak point of a otherwise fine upgrade from HTIB. Go ahead and listen to it first and see what it does, but I think a Polk 505 (though decent at best) woud still be alot better and can be found for 199 from newegg w/ free shipping.

Welcome to Club Polk- enjoy the ride.
