Monitor 45 + PSW505 or Monitor 75 + PSW505

I guess this is a classic big speaker vs small speaker question.

I am putting together a 2.1 setup strictly for movies.

My choices are Monitor 45 (bookshelf) plus PSW505 or Monitor 75 + PSW505. I am leaning towards Monitor 45's thinking that since bass duties would be handed off to the sub, spending extra money on Monitor 75 to get some functionality which may not be put to use could be wasteful. May I request your thoughts on this?

Thanks

That depends on a few things.

Is your room big? I wouldn't be putting m75s in a 12x12 bedroom.
Are you going to get a nice receiver? You should, but if you are not then definitely get the smaller speaker.

    Thanks for replying!

This is a dedicated projector (movies) room. approx 12x17. 9ft high ceiling.
Receiver is Pioneer VSX-1022-K. I am only doing a 2.1 setup.

After having spent thousands upon thousands on separates, dedicated this that and the other thing, I have realized that it is just tooo much hassle and expense for little (for my ears) gains. If the movie is good, even the current soundbar-based setup sounds "good". I am wanting to up the ante just a little because the subwoofer included with the sound-bar has limits. When spending money, I just wanted to make sure that my new choice of audio gear is selected based on logic as opposed to what's on sale right now. And that's where the question originated.

My very little and limited know-how about these things tells me that the extra money spent on 75t's in my setup would be a total waste especially considering comments from various folks that bookshelf version will have better imaging and mid-handling. But I may have misunderstood things and 75t's would blow 45b's out of the water no matter what.

Well, if you've done separates before you have probably heard some pretty amazing sound, and I'm just thinking that monitors will not have the quality you may be used to. Monitors are polk's entry level line and it is so basic that only a real begginer will be able to enjoy it. I am all for qoing small and simple, but still using high quality stuff for high quality sound. Your receiver is not so bad, you should be able to power a nice pair of bookshelves or small towers adequately. I'd be taking a look at rtia3 or kef q300, maybe the rtia5 towers, just something that's not so hard to drive, definitely stay with 8ohm speakers, but up the quality a little bit. Again, I think you will not like what you hear from the monitor line, and liitle bit of extra money spent will get you a long way.

Same goes for the sub. the 505 is eh... ok. But i'd spend the extra few bucks on a dsw line 600. It's the difference between you setting it up and being content pretty much right off the bat and you setting it up and fighting to make it sound "right".
