American pizza is better than Italian. This is fram an Italian who's been to Italy many times.

Pizza Hut might be better. One of the best pizza's I ever had was Pizza Hut in Germany. It was American style pizza madr with REALLY fresh ingredients. They used extra virgin olive oil on the crust, and the mozarella was fresh. Delicious.

    Enjoy Italy!

Dude, Taco bell.....your in the frickin' motherland of food man. As for pizza....no way american pizza is better. You never had a wood fired fresh pizza then with the freshest ingredients. Italian foods aren't complex, like say French cooking is with all their sauces, but it's the ingredients and the freshness that Italians focus on with a simple style of cooking that doesn't hide the flavors. Enjoy your trip, different regions of Italy do things slightly different almost like a bunch of mini-cultures in one country. As a side note, stay out of the tourist traps and eat where the locals eat. Find the smallest hole in the wall place run by mom and pop for some darn good eats . Also on the cheap, drink the local wines. Much cheaper and better quality than the big names. Have fun, and maybe you and that Russian girlfriend can find a padded room to have some fun in so you don't break anything or hurt each other.

sounds awesome, trip is ok so far, the hotel is ok, the base is beautiful, and going out soon, she she napoli pizza is the best in italy, im just buggin her to go to pompeii, well i gotta go wash all me cloths now, and when i return i will be cussing out the entire staff of the bus company for the urine, oh and the excessive drinking and casual drug use of some of the

the bus ride was terrible, our luggage came out soaked with piss, the guy accross the isle and one row back was whitegirl wasted and took some drugs, kept using my girl as a foot rest and kicked her, i was asleep through that till i woke up to her screaming at him, then he threw up all over himself, his seat, and the floor so i got to smell that the next 6 1/2 hours, but now im off to see the town, later guys, thanks for the new years wishes and i wish the same for you

Sorry Tony, but I'll attest to the fact that the pizza in Italy, and in europe in general is bland as hell. NO flavor, whatsoevah!
The best pizza I had on my last med cruise was at the Pizza Hut in Turkey!

Yeah, not saying you can't find "good" pizza in Italy. But overall, American's perfected the pizza. I tend to be a proud Italian, but this is one item where Americans just do it better. I consider pizza more "fun" in America too. Now, I don't dislike Italian pizza. It's just different in a more bland way as Obieone put it. In some pizza establishments it's actually dreadful. On the flip side, there is no general Italian restaurant on the CONUS that I have had that can match what you get in Italy. Of course that is rather opinionated, but I have looked from coast to coast and in Italian neighborhoods and always walk away dissapointed.

But Italy has a lot to offer than just foods. Try the not-so-touristy spots and you will fall in love with the place.

American pizza and the Italian conception of that are "entirely" different beasts. With the Italian version being more subtle and requiring a more "educated" palate to appreciate, as is the case with most "fine" Italian food!

Look at Chinese in the U.S. It is "adjusted" for the American palate. What does that mean? More Salt and sugar, etc. People go to China and experience a slightly different and certainly widely varied "regional" cuisine. But once you've dined in the homeland your sense of taste "expands", "learns".

I grew up with first rate Greek cuisine at home--very near the equivalent of the real version. And my best friend, next door, was from an Italian family with whom I spent more than a modicum of Sundays, the hours and hours spent cooking and fretting over the food were legendary.

Get out into the "real" Italy and be "adventurous", there's a "world" of food out there!

Thats part of the problem, the cruise ship docks at the tourist traps who are just there to take your coin. You have to immerse yourself into cultures when traveling to really experience them. Kinda like saying Olive Garden is the best representation of Italian food here. A tourist who only ate at one would walk away thinking Americans can't do Italian.

No offense man, but just the fact that you even walk into a Pizza hut while in these great cultures tells me your not seeking out the real deal of local cuisines.

i wouldnt go so far as to say that, sometimes after a long day when you just want to relax, familiarity can really help, no worries about if you will like it or unsurities about what you will get,

that being said, you should always strive to expand your tastes and such, of course if you go to antonio and maria's pizza right next to insert tourist trap here you will get some half-a$$ed pizza, or some pathetic pasta or what not, i know the place we went had maybe three tables and sonn after we got inside there was a croud of maybe 20 people trying to get inside, none of them american, and the limoncello was some real strong homemade stuff, reall good, pizza's were good, hand made mozzarella sticks, there were non itallian influences in the cuisine but all done in a real itallian manner and exquisite quality, anyone who doesnt like itallian food in italy has never had real itallian food, that being said american pizza and itallian pizza are not in the same class of food, american is a savory pie, itallian is more like an open face sandwich

pizzas were great, wanted to find a more remote resturant but naples is a dangerous city, being tourists and out at night, didnt wanna go too remote as street crime is common place walking down remote streets, no complaints with any of the food i had, except maybe the stale canoli, but thats sicilian food and i can get better ones here

Yeah, man.....not cheap thats for sure. Italy is one of those countries like Greece.....in fiscal trouble. Nobody wants to give up their freebies so those in charge keep raising taxes. Sound familiar ? My in-laws were there last summer and said many would not accept credit cards. They all wanted the cash, unreportable cash. Also most ATM's were empty too. The locals said it was their way of sticking it back at their government. Shame though, for such a beautiful place dependant on tourism, it appears they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

Glad you had a good time anyway. Try Croatia if you ever get up that far, great eats too and much cheaper. Next trip should be Capri.
