New To Polk

Hi, just purchased my first Polk product yesterday. Went for the Monitor 75T speakers. The A7s were so nice, but the M75 were half the price so... anyway, I have a small home theater set up. 60" Pani plasma, Yamaha v671 receiver, Samsung blu-ray. Speakers are (now) M75 Polk mains, PSB 100 center, PSB Alpha B1 sides, and Realistic Minimus 7 rears and Sony 2500 sub. I'm not familiar with bi-amping, would there be any advantage to bi-amping the new Polks? Thanks for having me...Oh, and also wondering about break in. Low volumes for 100 hours or are there any other suggestions?

Welcome to Club Polk!
Looks like you're putting together a nice system, there. You might want to timbre match the L/R speakers with another Polk (at some point, but OK for now) CENTER speaker, and get a bigger, badder sub than the Sony 8" 100 watter (probably only really hits to 40 hz although Sony says it goes lower). Does that Yamaha have Pre-outs on the back?
Normal volumes, not blasting ones are fine during the break in period. And yes, about 100 hours or so should do you!
Enjoy.

Hey Welcome to Club Polk.

Welcome aboard!!
cnh asked about pre-outs cause eventually, you'll want more power to drive the mains. Speaking from experience, adding substantial power would be like getting a new speaker.

Wow, that is a big a** flat panel! What is that? 70", 80"? And nicely done with the center up above. Oh, just reread your o.p. 60" pani, very nice.
The first thing you're going to NEED to do is replace that center, timbre matching the front three is a desired must have. Winning the lotto would be a good thing, because then you can afford to have me recommend the rest of the equipment you NEED!Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2

There is another oak tower on the right out of sight in that picture, and I built that "bridge" to connect them after I bought the 60". It has the PSB center, which matched my old PSB 600 mains. Definitely have to replace it hopefully this year. I find inconsequential financial things get in the way, like food and shelter...

I REALLY like my centers under the tv. The voices seem just to high up if it is located at the top. When you re-do the bridge you could just leave a little space and get the tv up a little and fit the center under/in front of it. You could save 5 or 6 inches if you wall mounted the tv or if you are finished with the bridge...maybe just raise the bridge a couple of inches with spacers on top of the oak towers, move the tv back close to the wall, which will also cut down on any glare on the screen, and raise it to the maximum just below the bridge and place your center in front of the tv. I did this last year, built a custom "box" for the tv to sit on and it just clears by 1/8 inch the bridge and have just enough for a cs5 in front of the tv which makes a nice little table for stuff...just saying. P.S. sorry about the blurry pictures, hard holding things steady sometimes.Attachment not found.Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,

I'm glad I started looking into this thread. I see we have similar entertainment centers and I like how your's houses electronic gear. I think I will remove my doors to the center cabinet and have a little re-do with it. I wanted my new (used) amp to go down there someplace and I do like your clean set-up. Currently my gear is housed in the glass door on the left tower on roller slide outs but it is a real problem with wire management behind the amp and receiver. Remoting the receiver and or at least the parasound to the lower unit will help things out and give me more media storage.Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,

I like what you did with yours michael. I had a million different ways I wanted to mount things, everything I thought of seemed to be a compromise. This is a family room first that I built 5 years ago, though I did insulate all walls and the ceiling knowing this would be a hybrid type room. The rears are built into the ceiling, who knew 7.1 was right around the corner? I did have the center BEHIND the Pani at one time, but of course it blocked a lot of the sound. I realized the center would be high when I built the bridge, so I made isolation wedges out of the plucking foam from a Pelican hard shell instrument case, the angle towards my sitting position is about ideal. I like the height on the tv now, don't want to raise it. And I can't go back further with the tv, there is a love seat on one side and a couch on the other, people sitting there would have their vision blocked. Of course I sit in a big a** chair directly in front. Life's all about compromises

A little more about the entertainment center... it was 6 pieces when new (5 now). There was a center section that sat on the base you see that houses my equipment (and that base had doors that I removed as well). The center had pull out sliding doors that closed in the tv. But, it was designed years ago and I had squeezed in a Panasonic 36" TAU crt unit. A few years ago, I got a 42" Pani plasma into it be removing the sliding doors. Things got really dicey when I bought the 60", I scrapped the centre section and moved the towers farther apart to accomodate the new tv, then built the bridge.
