So i am getting my first SACD tomorrow from Diana Krall. Question is what the difference will be from regular cd's or FLAC files.

Cheers

What SACD player are you using?

Hello, Irrenhaus. For the first SACD you hear on your rig, it won't matter with regards to the player. Just make sure you are, in fact, listening to the SACD layer and not the redbook layer. Decal does have a good question though. What player you have and it's settings may determine what layer you may actually be hearing. To answer your question? Let your ears decide. Our opinions mean nothing but detriment or hype and lead to a preconceived notion of expectation bias. Don't buy into that. Let your own ears decide.

The reason I asked was you didn't list an SACD player and some folks don't realize you can't play SACD on a CD player. You should hear a great deal of difference as soon as the music starts if it's a quality recording. So so recordings still sound so so, if that makes sense. Enjoy.

Well I got the SACD deliver today. Initial listening I have to say like it a lot. Happy with how good it sounds. More testing tonight after dinner.

Where I most notice the difference is in the smoothness of voices, female vocals especially and strings. When I go back and listen to the CD, they almost sound buzzy and harsh.

Happy New Year to all that read this thread.

If you also obtain anything Depeche Mode, you will be blown away how good their 5.1 mixes are (Black Celebration, Violator or Ultra are good starters). Steely Dan Gaucho is also another great sounding SACD. Enjoy this world of SACD, I have been for quite some time now.
