Finally got off my arse and found a good deal on a used truck to replace my POS Toyota truck.

I think it'll be a good replacement: 2005 Chevy Colorado Extended Cab.

Has all the features I wanted (like AC, stereo, power windows/locks), and the "4" door extended cab is gonna be handy for picking the kids up from wrestling practice.

And it had decent mileage for a 2005 - right at 69K.

It's gotta be better than my sinkhole Toyo.

So far I'm diggin' it.

    Make sure you keep new front brake pads on it if its a 4x4, as you must take the whole front end apart to change the rotors. Expensive brake jobs on these trucks.

    Yep the 6cylinder Yotas are a sink hole, the FI 4cylinders are a dream!

    You ain't seen a "Sink Hole" until you start buying parts for a Chevy 5 cylinder!:cheesygrin:

    The dealer I bought it from is owned by the Penske group - they did a complete check of the vehicle and it got new rotors and pads. Carfax checked out - no collisions, no airbag deployments and there were 27 service checks listed so it was well taken care of

    Its just a 2WD.

    I've got 2 days to have it checked out by my mechanic and I can take it back if something doesn't check out. I got a 30-day/1000 mile warranty otherwise.

    Here's the littany of pain:
    * bad radiator & fan: replaced at 40K
    * blown headgasket - total new engine at just 64K
    * bad fuel pump
    * ERV replaced
    * O2 sensor replaced....twice
    * bad ignition switch
    * whole new clutch
    * front right axle
    * low compression on #5 - bad exhaust valve - that was last straw as it would have cost $2500 for new valve grind

    I've been going to the same mechanic for over 12 years - when I asked if I should get the valve grind or sell it - without hesitation he said sell it.

    Done and done

    Oh I agree with ya.
    Toyota 6 cylinders SUCK (especially gas).
    But their 4 cylinders cannot be beat (all mine are fuel injected).
    That said, the best motor I have EVER owned was a Chevy Vortec 6 cylinder.
    Had 225,000 miles on it when I sold it and purrrrred like a kitten (I bought it brand new with 7 miles on it:cheesygrin:).

    That said, consider the the limited time Chevy made that 5 cylinder.
    I could be wrong, but if IRC, the parts are EXTREMELY high when you can find them.

    Just something to think about, and I could be 100% wrong on that.
    I love the looks of the Colorado's, just never cared for the thought of an inline 5 cylinder.

    Congrats on the nused truck. I feel your pain with a sinkhole; I have a 2005 Nissan Titan LE Crew Cab 4x4 and the list of repairs and warranty replacements would take 15 minutes to list. I totalled it up last year on what I have paid in repairs and what warranty replaced cost of parts and labor. It totalled well over 10k. Luckily only 2k of that has been mine out of pocket (ABS actuator went bad and had to pay to replace that and a couple of other things that nickel and dimed me). The big warranty repairs were rear axle seals, rear axle assembly, transmission, front pinion seal, front differential. I RARELY use the 4 wheel drive and I just started towing last year (a pop up camper). I upgraded to a 22 foot travel trailer at the end of the summer so am hoping the truck handles towing well - it is rated to tow well above the weight of the travel trailer so weight shouldnt be an issue. Just nervous with all of the things that have gone wrong, it may spontaneously combust on a trip somewhere!

    Congrats on your purchase hope you enjoy it. I was wondering was your Yota a pre Tacoma Model? I own a pre tacoma model with the 3.0 V6, as problematic as the 6,s were at times they are fun as hell to take off road. I will post some pics of mine when I dig them out. I hope you enjoy your Chevy post some pics
