I know everyone on this site has had moments listening to their stereo/HT set up that make all the $$$ and time we spend on this awesome hobby worth it.

Last night I was listening to Pink Floyd The Wall 180gm vinyl w/my 18yr old son. I was telling him all the upgrades and equipment testing and purchasing in order to make my stereo sound SO good (which it did last night). I then said I amthinking about getting some new cables to make it sound even better. He looked at me and said with complete honesty and no guile, " Can it sound any better than this??"

It was a beautiful moment!

That's cool! I have tried to introduce my 13 year old daughter to the "better" music out there. Like jazz and blues etc. She says thats cool Dad, then turns One Direction on in her room. I shake my head and turn up some Steely Dan.

Great that he shows an intrest in good gear and good music. A 18 year old listening to the classics, how good is that, so long he didnt ask you to put in Nickelback or any of that other stuff the teens listen to today. I bet it brought a tear in your eye, sounds like a cool moment.

Had one of those moments today in my car (which I know isnt the best sonically). I threw in Fleetwood MAC on CD which is an group I have never heard before (I am a youngin and was VERY sheltered as a kid so back off ). The kick drum and just overall the seperation I heard even in my car was quite nice. I am looking forward to picking up some old stuff and enjoying the DYNAMICS that are missing in all the other stuff you hear nowadays...

That and it reminded me of CoolJazz's open baffle speaker I got to hear over Thanksgiving and so I might be building myself a little open baffle pair of speakers for my desk and possibly my office in the future ....

Enders- Your dad's cool enough to play Halo 4 with you, but never listened to Fleetwood Mac wow that is truly the ups and downs of life. lol.... Fleetwood Mac Rumors is one of my all time fav albumns. You gotta go buy it today- seriously... risk life and limb thru the snowstorm

well maybe not all that but at least put it in pandora as a channel or buy it from itunes if you have to.

Long story but my dad is a PK and my Grandpa gave him enough grief about Kansas (which he has some LP's from).. so I grew up with Petra, Stryper, etc lol.....

Rumours was the CD I was listening to ....

There is a local forum member who I plan on borrowing a bunch of CD's from his extensive library to rip to FLAC for myself so I should have a bunch of new old stuff to listen to after that....

Yup. Same here. I remember my Dad sitting me down as a young lad and playing the LP for me. Been enjoying it ever since and now I do the same with my son.

I'd like to check out the CJ gear. I'm running a Pioneer PL 530 myself at the moment. I'd like to spend some time with some vintage Klipsch speakers but havent' been blown away by any of their newer offering. Admittedly I've only heard them in a big box store like Best Buy so I understand that's not a true or fair asessment.

More important overall is that your son is showing interest and you are enjoying the moments together. Time with children that grow up too fast is way more important than any gear. Some of my greatest memories of my dad and I are centered around listening to tunes on the weekend when mom was at work and we could turn up the wick a little. His interest in stereo gear laid the foundation for my interest today. I picked up an Tandberg 1040 integrated receiver off CL and was able to give it to him for Christmas this year. He had one like it purchased new that got sold during a difficult divorce and was tickled that I found another one for him. I don't think many were imported to the states and seem to be pretty elusive.

Just found another piece he had back in the day- A TEAC A 650 cassette deck. I'm buying one from CP member Mystery to surprise dad with for Father's day this year. Those memories created 20 some years ago helped set in motion alot of the fun I'm having today with vintage gear.

He planted the seed. Just be sure to do the same.

The seed has grown into a tree. Make a forest.
