"Those who irrationally rail against something or someone that is no threat to them, actually desire (or desire to be like) the thing or person they are railing against.." DK

So....is this quote a cute attempt to counter attack someone or some group that disagrees with their view of life or truth? It seems an easy out intellectually, label someones disagreement as irrational railing which then means they really want to be that which they disagree with. You can then whistle along your merry way disregarding all disagreement with your worldview of something you believe is no threat to anyone?

Because first off, who is defining something as irrational railing? Where did they get their authority to judge someone else's belief as irrational railing?

Where did they get their authority to define "no threat"?

So this person is saying if you disagree with this particular person about something THEY see as no threat to you they then get to judge your disagreement as irrational and therefor a Freudian type psychological doublespeak where you really desire to be like what is enemy to your worldview but agrees with his??

Does this person (in this case DK) also apply this principal to himself if someone else deems his views as irrational railing against something they see as no threat to him??

Huh, I'll have to think about it some more but at first glance it's a pretty weak comeback imo.

I have to work today .... and I'm still bored.

Bored enough that I'm stuck on Youtube watching Paul Revere & the Raiders videos. Yeah, tell me about bored.
Still .... "Hungry" .... "Let Me" .... "Just Like Me" ...."Kicks" ...... maybe it's irrational to think I'm bored. Maybe I'm having a flashback.

.... nope, I'm bored. Can't argue with that.

Not my fault, though. Waiting for the 'Hi-Point" of my week when my special Xmas present FINALLY shows up is taking a toll on me.

    ..... naw, I'm just bored.

DK's quotation reminds me of one of my favorites: "The louder you get, the wronger you are!"

Not as elegant, but somehow seems to me to be getting at a similar point.

And I think the allusion to Hamlet is more like, "The lady doth protest too much, me thinks" -- but I did not go back to the text to confirm it.

One additional point: If God didn't expect human beings to judge "things" -- meaning anything at all -- why did he/she give us judgement? Isn't judgement -- good, bad, or indifferent -- part of what makes us human beings?

Yes, I'm not working today and probably have too little to occupy my idle mind, but excuse me, that is a judgement. Or, is it?

Happy new year to every body. May we all enjoy peace, prosperity and happiness in 2013.

I for one do not think DK was trying to judge whether or not someone was actually being rational, but rather that their obsession with railing might have seemed irrational... to him at least. ANd it was probably directed at a cable-naysayer too!

Having only met him once, I would not attempt to try to assume what was on his mind that day; however, I also do not think he's the type to be so inflexible in his views/beliefs to shut out anyone who did not march to his drummer.

Substitute the idea of the word "irrationally" and look at it to mean incessantly, or maybe constantly? Just my .02 to the discussion.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

It's pure psychobabble, but, it does apply, in kindergarten. Remember the statements (railings) by a boy that he hated girls, when, in fact.....

I think DK wrote the quote because there was a group of members here that were picking on me because DK felt that they were jealous of me for some reason and the only reason they were picking on me was because of jealousy.

Let's see if those individuals post a response and then I'll let you know who they were.

From this standpoint I get it and it makes sense in this context. But the statement is an all inclusive blanket statement with no context so I railed against it. I guess proving I really wanted to agree with it. lol

"If you're going to flap your yapper, bring something to the table. Listen, and if you're wrong, you're wrong, so either move on or put a cork in your pie hole".

... I think DK expresses it more eloquently.
