I have an older Sony HD tv, (KV-32HS20), which supports 480i/p and 1080i but does not support 720p.
What would happen if I fed my tv a 720p signal? Would I not get a picture? The manual of course says nothing.
I'm asking because I was just reading that ESPN HD is 720p and not 1080i. I wish Time Warner would get on the ball and start offering ESPN HD, but I'm also wondering how my tv would handle it.

will probably convert it to 1080i. Most direct view HDTVs don't do 720p natively so the STBs will convert things however you like.
