From my personal collection....

Carver C-1 Sonic Holography Hi Fidelity Control Console

First of all, this is a GREAT sounding preamp. First and foremost, it has one of the best sounding line stages that you can find.

It has all the features that you could want. A ton of inputs, 2 phono inputs, one for MM and one for MC cartridges. It has tone controls for those who like them (defeat switch for those who don't) and the Carver Sonic Holography circuit that can add three dimensional effect to the music using a similar principle as Polk's SDA effect. The hologram is, unlike SDA, recordable. It is also defeatable if you don't want to use it. I also have the manual, which is required to properly set up Sonic Holography and explain the plethora of features that this preamp has.

Mine is in excellent condition. The only blemishes are a couple of minute scratches on the top and small wear marks on the volume knob. I've just had the C-1 professionally serviced at Peachtree Acoustics here in Charleston. Clean bill of health and all switches, knobs and buttons have been cleaned and lubricated for years of problem free use, a 65 dollar value, your for FREE!

I am asking 170.00, packed shipped UPS ground in the lower 48. I don't have the original box but will pack to withstand an atomic blast. Also, my policy is, if you aren't completely satisfied, return it to me in the same condition I sent it and I will refund your 170.00.

If you are interested, holla at me here or shoot me an email at: troy.dion@charleston.af.mil

Thanks!

Troy

The ONLY reason it is for sale is that I have obtained a Conrad Johnson PV-7 tube preamp and I need to raise cash to pay for it. Otherwise, it would NEVER leave my possesion.

Yeah, Troy has a hard time thinking for himself.

I bag a tube pre, then Troy has to try and 'one up' me with a CJ. I expect some sort of tube cd player to show at his house...I mean I got one, so its only a matter of time. ;)

Great preamp for sale here fellas - full featured, and SH is something to behold. It DOES work. This could be your 'last' preamp, it's that good.

I dunno, that Radii looks pretty high tone......

I wasn't expecting to like the CJ so much, honestly. I've been pondering the tube pre for a while and this deal just came up so I had to jump on it.

If nothing else I can name drop with mantis now. ;)

I looked at the C-1's on ebay. What do all of the controls do? Also I noticed that some look grey and others look silver, which is yours?

    Chuck,

Lemme cut and paste from some other ads:

It has 2 phono imputs, Phono 1 (M/M)with adjustable loading(0pf/180pf/350pf),and phono 2 M/C, 2 aux, 2tape, tuner, plus external processor (which is cool because if you have an eq or something, you can also bypass it). Two main outs, 2 tape and external processor out. Three switched and three unswitched power outlets.

There is a L&R treble and bass controlls, a 3db boost button for 40hz, 8Khz/2Khz

stereo/mono switch and a mute button

it also has a headpphone jack

seriously, this thing HAS the bells and whistles but even better is that you can bypass them all.

Mine has the grey face with black inset with the knobs and so forth. There is a pic of it somewhere on here in the rack, lemme try and find it....

    Chuck,

I don't have a LOT of basis for comparison but compared to the phono section in the onkyo preamp that I have, it sounds a lot better.

You might check with George Grand, he's had a C-1 and Thorens TT setup for years, he could probably tell you better than I.
