Just picked up a pair today. Went from TSI400 to the A7s and I must say the difference is almost night and day. I wish I could do them justice with a better receiver and amp but for now the Denon AVR-1913 will have to do. I did have some questions though.

1.Audyssey set front and center speakers to full band, is that correct?
2.SHould I set them to small and if so, at what HZ?
3.Surround(TSi400) also to full band but I changed it to small, is that ok?
4.Surround back were set to small @80hz which sound about right.

Thanks for any help in advance.

At some point I plan to upgrade the receiver and Purchase the amp but I'm already dug myself a big whole with the current setup and the budget does not allow for anything at the moment.
I'm fairly new at this so bare with me.

I just answered this question on AVS. My guess, is your AVR set the mains and center to full because your sub and AVR are lacking. I would try a variety of settings and give a listen for awhile so you can try to distinguish a difference.

You can try setting everything to 80hz, or 40hz across the front and surrounds at 80hz, or 50 - 60hz across the front, or 70hz across the front, you get the picture. Plus, having them at full band might be the answer to get more bass when you have a sub that's not putting out enough LF's.

Haha...I"m the same guy. I was anxious for input so I posted in both. Thanks...I really appreciate the help. I do feel like my sub is not cutting it. The PSW gain knob is set really low because if i get anything close to the middle I'll get a -12db on the bass setting which I've read is bad. I guess i have to save up for a new sub. Bad thing is that I've had this one for less than 3 months.

Hey whats up oleon, I knew it was the same post. I've done the same thing myself. Sorry about the sub. I don't have that problem, I have a different one, I research for months and months before making an electronic purchase, drives my wife nuts. I have however, upgraded my speakers twice in the last two years. Before my last upgrade, my wife told me, find what you really want, save up for and get it instead of buying what you can afford hoping to get what you can't later.

Yea...I wish I would have known this earlier. I would have gone with a different brand all together to be honest. I guess I could sell the one I have for a couple hundred if I"m lucky and go from there. I've read great reviews about this Pioneer Sub http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/Speakers/Home+Theater+Speakers/SW-8MK2.

Its on the cheap side but there are great reviews on it. I dunno what to do to be honest. I guess I"ll figure it out when I have some money saved up.

Right now I have the main fronts running @40hz and they sound good. I'll try 60hz tomorrow.

Right on. My mains and center are at 40, surrounds have been at 70 but have them at 80.

The sub is the one thing you don't want to skimp on, having a real powerful sub IMO makes your HT. I went from two dinky subs, an Onkyo max 490w and an Energy max 400w to a single Epik Empire and it ba-lewww them away. When I got my second empire, the world just got that much better :)

All the reciever is doing is lowering the volume on your sub becasue of Audyssey. Try setting the fronts and center to 80 Hz and run them as "small" in your reciever.
Set your subs volume at almost half and turn the low pass filter all the way to the right on 120 Hz. Your sub is more then adequate for the setup and it should really be working fine for you. Now the settings I mentioned are a starting point.
Give it a try and tell us how it sounded!

To note, I use to run the 7's with a smaller PSW-10 sub and it worked great, of course not like my SVS sub I have now but it still worked nicely. Your 505 should kick butt with those 7's. Something is not right in the reciever settings somewhere as the sub powers itself.

I read up a bit on your amp, nice amp by the way. Found this, "For example, it reminds you to turn up the subwoofer control halfway (to the 12 o'clock position), bypass the sub's internal crossover or use its "direct" input, and turn off the sub's standby power control."

I also saw that your are running a 7.1 setup; with that many speakers I would set all to "small" and crossthem like I mentioned and others as well at 80Hz. You are using tower speakers for your rears and if all speakers are set to full or large your amp will have a tough time keeping up with them! :) Use the sub wooffer for what it was made for and let your amp run the speakers with out having to worry about the bass as well. Hope this helps.

For me, YPAO set BOTH my A7's and FXiA6's as "large", and my RTi4's as small.

I like a bit fuller sound coming from my fronts, so I'm happy with them as large. Haven't experimented with the FxiA6's as small yet...

    cool setup.
Get your wires in the WALL! Run to homedepot and pick up two low voltage rings and two hole plates and a cheap snake. It will take you 15 mins to do.

I trust Audyssey/Mcacc to do the right thing. I use it all the time. I just ran it last night on my own system after switching out my old speaker for new ones.
I would suggest getting a tripod and placing it where your head would normally be.

I have two of those. I wrote a little review a few weeks back. Its a fantastic cheap sub for music. I have them running off my preamp "main 2" and adjusted the crossover so that they blend with my RTiA5's. I am not sure I would use it solo as a LFE sub for movies. Its just not big enough. I still use my dsw600 for LFE. It all blends together so nicely.

Regarding the crossovers, being that you are only using a avr I would recommend having them set to small or 80hz all the way around. The 1913 just doesnt have enough clean power to push those speakers properly. By setting the crossover the sub will do its job and let the 1913 have some breathing room to play your mids and highs with better clarity and doing so with out the risk of clipping.

If you get a power amp then try the full range. I noticed a nice improvement run full range off a power amp vs off of my AVR.

Thanks specd_out. What you say makes sense. The day I get a better receiver with amps and all, I'm going to need some serious help!

I just got my amp set up and what a difference! Although I have new speakers now when I hooked it up with the RTi10's it was like a completely different speaker, I don't know about the Denon 1913 but if it has pre outs and you like its features I'd try an amp before buying a new receiver. I also took the advice of this forum and bought the new sub 1st, it made a big difference in my system. I got the HSU3MK4, mellow when it needs to be and hits hard when needed. I believe it was mentioned before but I think saving until you can get a good sub is worth it.

I wish I would have done more research when I bought a receiver. I would have gone with something with pre outs. The Denon 1913does not have them. Next month I'll be in the market for a new receiver. Something with pre outs and not too expensive since this would be my 2nd receiver.

I have a 7.1 setup, would switching to 5.1 help distribute more power evenly across 5 speakers instead of 7?
