Does anyone know if the dayton speaker spikes will fit in the factory threaded area on the feet of the RTiA series speakers. I am looking to get a set.

The RTiA series uses 1/4-20 threads for spikes.

The problems I found with most aftermarket spikes for the RTi A floor standers is that one, the spikes are too wide at the top and look stupid when mounted. Two, there is a large space/gap between the rubber footer and the actual threads, so you need long threads.

I found stainless steel spikes made by Track Audio, available at Music Direct, that look good mounted and have long enough threads, but the spike area is not long enough to pierce thick carpet. Unable to find what I wanted, I designed my own. The problem then became finding someone to make them for a reasonable price. I sent my design to one machine shop that never got back to me even after I made repeated phone calls. I then found a place close to where I live, but they wanted $30.00 per spike. In other words, they didn't want the job. Just recently I found a company in England that sells a stainless steel spike that will look nice mounted. The spike length is long enough to pierce thick carpet, but they have 6mm threads and the threaded length is only 10mm. I asked them if they would make some with 1/4-20 threads and with a 20mm thread length. They just got back to me saying they could make them for about $58.00 per set of four. I am waiting for a grand total and payment information before I place my order after which I will post the details.

This is what I'm looking at, http://www.hifiracks.co.uk/hifi-rack-products/27/stainless-steel-35mm-spikes

    sure look nice.

I removed the rubber off of the feet so I dont have to worry about longer threads. The 1/4-20 and the M6x1.0 are similar enough that some careful rethreading should make it work. If it doesnt work I only lost $12

I did that to one outrigger, didn't like the look.

I thought about that too, but wanted to see if I could get HiFi Racks to make them with 1/4-20. Since they will, it's a no brainer.
If it doesnt work I only lost $12

No doubt, they are cheap. The problem I have with Dayton spikes is the plating chips off way too easy.

That was very nice of Polk, but honestly those spikes are dirt cheap for a damn good reason.

You should probe these guys for volume. Retooling in a machine shop takes time and is where alot of the cost comes in, once they retool they make lots of anything for very little extra. So if you say something like if I wanted 100 units how much could you do they would probably come way down on price per unit. Then you just sell them off in sets of 8 for double what you paid.

I got the spikes on. Rethreaded the feet to match the spikes. Everything went flawlessly. I installed spikes on my turntable as well as adding 10lbs of aquarium gravel to give it some weight. I also installed two spikes on the from of the csia6 so it aims the speaker upward toward the seating position.

I added some black granite tiles to complete the look that I wanted. I have the speaker sub combo mirrored on the right side as well.

Looks amazing with my accent lights. All the spikes and tile cost less then $100

specd_out, I hate to tell you this, but by placing your spiked speakers on a slab of granite on top of the carpet you're not getting the benefit of using spikes because the carpet/padding is still de-coupling the speakers from the solid floor. In order for what you've got to work, you'd have to spike the granite as well.

I dont think that granite is thick enough to spike, but that could look pretty cool, spiked granite on spiked speakers.

I'll update my spike adventure. It turns out the $58.00 per set of 4 included VAT. Seeing as VAT (Value Added Tax) is only charged for transactions in England, they removed that part of the charge bringing the cost to $46.52 per set of 4. The kicker is the shipping cost at 75.00 GBP, which works out to $121.12 at the current exchange rate. Ouch!

They have a shipping calculator on their site and after checking the cost to various parts of the world it appears that shipping out of England is just bloody expensive. Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound. I placed my order.

Oh I know. It got a little better then before, but I did it for looks. We are getting wood floors soon so it wont be much of an issue. The gold spikes and the black granite just look so good together, thats all i care about at the moment.

man that shipping is nuts. Better buy a bunch sell them and make your shipping costs back
