It will make them play music, but there isn't an AVR made that can outperform dedicated 2 channel gear.

If they were 1C (6 ohm) there would be no problem but the 1A are older and are 4 ohm.

    http://usa.denon.com/DocumentMaster/US/AVR-2112CIE3_ENG_CD-ROM_v00.pdf

Look on page 56 see it says 6-16.

Now if you will maintain low to avg volume levels you should
be ok but I would start looking for a "4 ohm speaker capable" 200 wpc amp.

You can hook it up to this receiver so your ok there.

See page 73, using zone2 for external amps

Man, I didn't know that! My 1B's are rocking with the Onkyo 805 pushing them. I'd still like to add an amp, but doubt I'll do that anytime soon.

I have a rather humble system running an old but beefy Denon DRA-835R (100W @ 8ohms) driving the RTA-11TLs. This old 2-ch receiver drives them effortlessly. I tried my Denon AVR-888 (100W @ 8ohms), which has a little more power than the AVR-2112ci (95W @ 8ohms), and it had no life. It played music but it did not have near the transparency, soundstage or bass drive as with the 835R.

The SDA's are going to be even more of a challenge. You could use it for now but get an amp in the future. Denon claims that their AVR's are 4-ohm capable, however, this may mean that they will not smoke with a 4-ohm load. It doesn't mean that it will sound good.

Something to consider, the power supply in an AVR is providing power for 7 channels, plus the tuner, DAC, pre-amp, processors, etc. That is a tall order to demand of a power supply. In a dedicated amp, you typically have a beefy power supply providing for just 2 channels.

I just got the info from the SDA Handbook tophatjohnny. You'll know now if it gets hot or switches off it's the 4ohm load and not your Onkyo. You probably know that I run my 2.3tls with a 808 Onkyo but they are rated at 8 ohms.

Man, I didn't know that! My 1B's are rocking with the Onkyo 805 pushing them. I'd still like to add an amp, but doubt I'll do that anytime soon.
