For fun. If money wasn't a problem what would be your ultimate AV and speaker set up for HD? Speakers, Receiver, Amps etc.

Wilson Alexandria or Alexia's in a 9.2 setup and a couple of rotary subs in a large, acoustically treated as well as designed sealed room.

I got to hear some Magnepan 20.1's powered by Audio Research gear today and it was incredible, i'd never heard anything close to that quality before. My wife fell in love until she realized it was a 30k setup

Old school - the folks at Altec got this right in the late 1940s; it still sounds right... and, yes, there are an amazing number of people with these things in their homes even today (I know some of 'em... heck, I am one of 'em)...

Realistically? Altec A5 VOTs with 515-series woofers and 1505 horns with 288 drivers for HF. Stunning presence, dynamics, and realism. Big but accommodatable in a large listening room, and cheap compared to today's boutique hifi loudspeakers.

(The "A5X" in the catalog page scan above has a smaller 8-cell horn on top; the 1505 is a 15 cell horn with a 500 Hz cutoff)

    Sony VPL-VW1000ES
    Carada Criterion in Brilliant White
    JTR Noesis for LCR
JTR Tripple 8 for all surrounds
    Wyred 4 Sound SX-1000 monoblocks
    JTR Orbit Shifters
    Cary Audio Cinema 11a
    Acoustic treatments

This is as good as it gets. Perhaps the Seaton Catalysts as an option, but it's purely taste. You can't achieve this level of performance with anything else for AV. And certainly not with Audiophile-type speakers. Mhardy's altecs and JBLs come close, though ;)

    4xJBL DD66000EB Everest II (Main L&R and L&R Surround)
    2xJBL S9900 K2 (Rear L&R Surround)
2xJBL 880 Array (Pair stacked for center duty)

    1xMcIntosh MX121 7.1 Pre
    4xMcIntosh MC452 450wx2 Amps
    1xMcIntosh MVP891

This, of course, is personal preference from equipment I actually have first hand exeperience listening to. I know there are better options out there and maybe after listening to them, I would switch up some things but I have heard this exact setup in a 7.1 environment and fell in love with it.
