New Reciever... Onkyo 809 or 818??

Hey everyone, its been a while since I've been here, but wanted to reach out real quick... I am about to upgrade my Pioneer VSX 1020 ...

I was about sold on biting the bullet for the Onkyo 818 for $670 through amazon when I saw that the 809 (last years version) is $426 .

The 818 features MultEQ XT32 which I think is the main selling point...

Thoughts? is the +$250 worth it?

Speaker Set up:
Front: 2x Monitor 60's
Rear: 2x Monitor 40's
Center: Polk CS2
Sub : PSW505
Extra: 2x monitor 30 & 2x Monitor 40 ... tbd use (heights or 7.1 ... different conversation)

    A little more research before you let your coins burn through your pocket. Please use the full call sign, eg: txnr818/txsr818. Goto "club Onkyo" and look around there and keep re-visiting as the stuff changes rapidly. Be cautious about buying "technology features" as they change quickly, think of all the docking devises for the 'I' stuff that will be obsolete soon because of the change of the little connection plug on the new I-5.     Well here is the rub.

    The 809 has XT, the 818 has XT32 however the XT32 in the 818 doesn implement SubEQ HT in the 818 which was one on the main sticking points for many in why they didnt upgrade.

    You will still get more filters on your mains with the 818 than 809, but you wont get much more on the sub, it EQ's them the same as XT. Almost all other manufactures include SubEQ HT with all their AVR's with XT32 but for Onkyo (and just on this one model).

    How big a deal is it? Dont know but worth reading up on. AVSFORUM has a long thread on the 818 well worth reading up on.

    IMHO I am probably looking at the 709 (since I use pre-outs for power the 809 only gives me a IEC plug at an added cost) and people are finding that one for 365 using codes so its even cheaper.....

    Both are decent, but IMHO the 818 is flawed and I would go with the 809 or 709.

    Right now the TX-Nr809 is priced $128.01 cheaper than the 709. Thats enough savings to almost get a M-282 refurb from accesories4less. Or 30 bucks more will get a new one from Amazon.
