Sherwood S-2000 tuner with a story :)

Bought this tuner on ebay and the seller "forgot" to mention that the cord has duct tape wrapped around a piece of the power cable. He didn't think it was any "big" deal. Asked around here where I live and people want $50 plus to swap in another cord and I really don't want to pay that much.
So, anybody with DIY skills want to buy this at what I have in it? Bought it for $22.00 with $22.00 to ship from Maryland to Seattle. Will use the same box with the same packing which was actually pretty good. Call in an even $45 with shipping, unless you are overseas or something:D
HE says no refund until he gets it back which is reasonable but here is a part of his reply to me..." I described the unit as used and did not lie to you in any way. It's your choice to return not mine. $50 to $75 to replace a $5.00 power cord? Please send it back, it sold to cheap anyway. Thanks, God Bless and Merry Christmas". It was a good price, too good i guess.
Can send links to the pics and stuff on Ebay if you wish.

A tube tuner for 45 shipped? That's amazing. It will take 20-30 minutes to replace that power cord. Just take any old lamp cord, and you're good to go.Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies

An S-2000 is my daily driver; one of the best sounding tuners I own (and I own a couple of the ostensibly "good" ones).
Highly recommended. Just sayin'...
-- yeah, so it's mono... so what?! :-) -
I'll take it, US Postal Money order alright?
Tomorrow.
I recently found out you cannot "gift" or pay for anything "Services" ect. ect. from your bank account through Paypal.
"Paypal Balance" or "Credit Card only".
I don't do credit cards.:cheesygrin:Testing

I pay using "gift" all the time direct from my bank account. -
I tried that yesterday with another purchase and had to send a money order today, because it did not work.
I can try it, but US Postal is always a safe bet, and no payment type was specified.
I am sure we can work something out.
Andre!
You don't have anything better to do than to bust my balls?
I'm just kidding, hope all is well and have the Best of the Holidays my friend!
You know I love ya!:razz:Testing

I talked to a buddy of mine from Australia today.
You remind me of him Andre.
Naturally, I gave him HELL.
I have known him for 10 years, and teased him about Christmas Dinner today.
Fried Kangaroo head with Wombat stuffing!
Not sure what you all do in Canada (not sure I want to know).
But having almost 200 positive sales on this forum alone, I am sure this is a done deal (I will pm you with my upgrades Andre!).
Don't hate, because they are going to be pretty good! Haha!:cool:Testing

Nice grab, pepster. I probably would've bought it if you hadn't. I could always use a DIY project swapping the cable, recapping, etc.

Athanku sir!
I was in the market for a tuner and this one happened to pop up!
Alan, I need your address please, I will make it worth your while, I have been known to throw in some freebies in most of my packages.:cheesygrin:Testing

Yep, yep, I want to have mhardy6647's baby!
Got this baby testing good today, with Mark's help (100% Mark's help!)!
I AM STOKED!
If you have never seen the inside of a Sherwood you would be BLOWN AWAY, by the craftsmanship, the point to point wiring they used to do back in the 60's, just incredible!
I have read more than 1 thread that they had better craftsmanship than McIntosh in those days.
I am a believer.
I have NEVER seen such things in person (it is so full of individual components, dust can't get in!).
WORK OF ART to say the least!
Thanks to Starkiller and mhardy6647, both you guys ROCK!Testing

I might take some with my phone (camera set up screwed at the moment).
I tried to buy a pair of Sherwood 36 watt mono blocks lastnight (excellent condition).
They had been "updated" with NOS tubes, and caps.
I went to $650 for the pair!
They sold for close to $900/pair!
Once I saw the craftsmanship of this tuner, now I want more Sherwood!
I built a dim bulb tester and could not get it to come on to start with.
Then Mark came back with the solution!
She is a "GO" NOW!
Thanks again to Mark for helping me trouble shoot and to Starkiller for a smooth transaction!
Living in the middle of nowhere has its advantages as far as tunas go (no interference).
I have a HK tuner that is remarkable to say the least (my Atoll preamp has zero tuner, but has inputs for one).
Once I get a new rectifier tube, I am pretty sure the 13 tubes in this tuna are going to make me rethink the HK ss tuna!Testing

Not sure why the phone tilts it like that, but I think if you click on the image it will zoom.
Incredible point to point wiring!
Just wondering if I should install the WBT Next Gen rca inputs laying at the bottom?
I have some sweeeeeeeeet Audio Note silver inputs also!
Just a matter of some Cardas Quad solder!

Why stop at a single dare? I DOUBLE DOGGIE DARE YOU TO!!!!!!!"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
What you cannot see is that each solder joint has 5-10 wires involved.
Plus the "variable cap" involved.
UNBELIEVABLE to say the least.
They DO NOT build them like that anymore.
13 vacuum tubes in this tuner alone, just saying, I was impressed!
I guess you cannot zoom in, like I thought, but will say, you don't see any "boards".
Trust me, I have been doing this for a while, and will say, it took a single person a week (or longer) to build this, building from a schematic.Testing

Your PM inbox is full, ol' son. :-P
If you need a replacement rectifier, let me know; PM me your snail mail address (I assume you're somewhere in the US?) and I'll send you a good used one.
The Sherwood tuners were pretty well made (if you think the S-2000 is impressive under the hood, take a look at a Marantz 10B tuner or something like a McIntosh MR-67). They also sound very good.
Now you need a nice S-5000 or S-5500 Sherwood amp to go with it :-)
