if we're on here, there's no doubt we love our movies, music, and our sound reproduction in general, regardless of what you got running it, the kind of output you got feeding it, or what you've got turning all that power into audio bliss; are there any regrets you have to taking on this hobby, maybe other hobbies that fell by the wayside to accommodate this, things you wanted or needed that you may have put off to fund this hobby, did you ever pass up a deal or let go something you shouldnt have?

more importantly how has this hobby affected your life, what have you gained from doing this, and what advice do you have for a young kid who is just getting into this?

The only advice I can give you is this: PATIENCE!!! No matter what you buy or what equipment you have, you will always come across something else you want. So don't get in too big of a hurry when looking for stuff. Wait for the deals to come around.

Get educated on audio is a great first step. Second is to do everything you can without spending money. The listening space is a critical component, and sadly the easiest and most often forgotten. Spending time getting the best speaker position, cleanest cable layout, and various objects position are all free tweaks that are worth the time. I've known many people who have achieved a 10-20% improvement just by working with these free steps.

Always have an open mind when trying out things. Its all about what you like for sound, and asking others with the same experience and taste as yourself does help but always try and hear it for yourself and form your own opinions.

I'm a young guy in this hobby and started out small and now love this. Did I give anything up for this? not really, at most going out to bar and drinking my money away all the time was probably the biggest and now I just do it at home with my gear

Everything matters, trust your ears, and in the end have fun!

I am really glad I built my home theater and 2-channel system before we bought our house - it took me years, but I built exactly what I wanted in my budget. HT was in a condo and tube 2-channel system was in my parents' basement. Now that we have a house, a new car and kid on the way, it's hard to spend $ on hobbies. My other hobby, motorcycle, took a huge chunk out of audio budget, but by that time, the audio systems were almost done anyway :)

Hi-fi was my first and "oldest" hobby, so I have always given it priority 1. I have many hobbies, so I tend to address each one "seasonally." During colder times, when I spend more time indoors, I tend to focus on my hi-fi hobby. During warm periods, my ATV's and guns get alot of attention, as well as my camping/hiking stuff. Of course, not being a millionaire--I have a limited budget that I'm willing to devote to these hobbies.

I spent the first 15 years or so of marriage with the same gear, the funds went to having a home, parenting, family vacation, etc.. I stopped skiing, rounds of golf dropped by 75%. When a little bit of extra cash started rolling in again I made audio my hobby priority
