need help replacing tweeter, anyone near Albany NY that can help
I think I have a bad tweeter and soon will be getting a replacement tweeter for one of my my Polk Monitor 10A speakers. The problem is I do not know how to remove and replace the bad tweeter. I have no electronics background, am mechanically-challenged, and do not know hot to solder or de-solder (which is what I think needs to be done to remove the wires from the tweeter). I was wondering if there is anyone near Albany NY who would be willing to help out.
Thanks.
Thanks.

In all probability the wire leads slide on and off and are not soldered to the speaker! But I could be wrong! If they do slide off. All you have to do is very very simple. Unscrew the tweeter, then slide the wires off, noting which wire is on which side of the speaker L/R (polarity) so you can reproduce that when you slide those onto the new tweeter. Then just screw the speaker back into place.
If the connectors are not slip on, then you will need to solder. Any shop school kid in your area could probably do that for you, again, be mindful of polarity +/- while he's doing that!
Good Luck!

Most of the first gen of Polk speaker were all soldered on. yes i do believe that the 10a were also in the same boat soldered.

Yes, the 10A's are soldered on. I thought I had blown tweeters in a pair I just bought and took one out. Luckily, all I had was a blown fuse! The difference between genius and stupidity is; genius has its limits. -Albert Einstein

Yes, the wires are definitely soldered on. I unscrewed the 4 outer screws and removed the tweeter but then I saw that the wires were soldered on. The problem is that I do not know how to de-solder the wires to detach the wires and fully remove the tweeter.
