what does a blown tweeter sound like?

I think I may have blown a tweeter in one of my Polk Monitor 10A speakers but I am not sure. The reason I think it may be the tweeter is that the sound from one of the tweeters doesn't sound as clear or lively (a little muffled or dead sounding) when compared to the other speaker/tweeter. There is still sound coming from the tweeter but its sound seems a little off to me.

If a tweeter were blown, would this be one of the ways a blown tweeter might sound?

I'll replace the tweeter but am trying to figure out if it is the tweeter after all or if it might be something else.

I replaced the fuse but that had no effect.

    Hmm....

    Blown tweeters usually make no sound...

    I would inspect your crossovers (remove the terminal cup)

    Also, swap the speaker cables and RCA cables from left to right to make sure it is not something else causing that channel to mess up

    Thanks for the reply. i understand a blown tweeter makes no sound but I guess my question was if it is is posssible that the tweeter was damaged but not fully blown and if the muted sound I hear from the tweeter could be caused by something that damaged the tweeter but did not blow it out entirely. I stupidly played 2 sets of speakers at the same time through my Yamaha CR 2020 receiver because I was under the mistaken impression that both the Polk Monitor 10A and Dahlquist DQ 10 speakers were 8 ohm speakers. It turns out that the Polk Monitor 10A is a 6 OHM speaker. I only played the 2 sets of spealkers together for a minute or two at low volume but, immediately afterward, I noticed the tweeter issue from the left Polk speaker. It just sounded more dead than the other speaker's tweeter. I was wondering if driving the 2 sets of speakers damaged the tweeter somehow. Luckily my receiver and DQ 10s sound fine and the only issue seems to be the one tweeter.

    Just swap the good tweeter with the questionable one. That will tell you if it is the tweeter or the crossover. Tweeters can and do go bad without being completely dead.

    But also if you are the one to burn it that means you can also maybe smell it.....

    Make sure the fuse is making good contact with the fuse holder. I discovered some corrosion on the fuse holder on my 10A's. Hit it with some contact cleaner and that should solve the problem.
