Putting an amp on top of AVR?? Is this a mistake??

Haven't done it yet, but space is a problem and if I was able to get away with putting an amp on top of my Onkyo TX SR805, that would be a remedy. As hot as some say they get, it may not be a good idea, but so far mine had only gotten warm at best. That may be because i don't run it for hours on end, so looking to see what to do or not to do as far as setting an adcom 200WPC amp on top of the Onkyo. Of course the seller said I should be fine, so no go until I hear from some of the valued members here. Thanks

I would not put anything on top of it. But I have plenty of room for my stuff. If you must do that I would put something between them to provide an inch or more of space.

I definitely would not recommend, especially on top of an 805.

That's all I need to hear. I am happy with the sound, just curious as to how much sweeter it would be with the 200 watts per channel running my 1B's. I'll just be content. Thanks

You have 130 wpc in 2 channel mode. Why wouldn't you put the receiver on top of the amp with 3" top spacing and open on all sides of course.

If I were going to put something on top of something else, and I don't recommend directly on top! I would put the Onkyo on top of the Adcom because the Adcom will NOT get as hot as the Onkyo. Unfortunately, you can't do that because the Adcom is NOT deep enough to act as a platform for the larger footprint of the Onkyo 805.

So if you have a rack. Adcom on the bottom and 805 on the next level-with PLENTY OF ROOM for VENTILATION!

Not sure how an Adcom would sound with an Onkyo. Both are a little forward. I do know that when I've used one with the Denon below, it was an almost "perfect" match for HT, and even OK for stereo.

    Have fun!..
