Are there more and (more exp. ) caps in the Sda1's than the Rta12c's? May have a deal working for a pair of sda 1's (c's) i believe) for after the 1st of the year (taxe return) Have not heard them yet. ( the gut is close , trying to get him to bring them over so i can compair side by side to the 12c's on my system) but i know to mod the 12's will run me about 5/600 (done right) just wondering if the sda recap is as involved cost wise and # of caps as the rta 12's? just perplexed as i havent had my ears on the sda1's yet amd looking at as many angles to this deal as poss. will surley have to drop the 12c's if i get the sda'a. Tough desision! As i love the 12c's just couldnt keep both.and if i mod the Rta 12c's i know i will never get the investment back (and thats not the point) but has too be figured in the desision. As the mods will be done on the sda's sooooo with 14 caps in the 12's how many are involved in the sda1's? Thanks.

The number of caps, and the uF value of those caps--therefore the overall cost--varies dramatically with the sub-model.

First Guess: Costs far less to re-cap a 1C than a 1B due to the 1B using large-value caps in the SDA circuit.

Schematics are on this site. Scroll down to the SDA 1 section:
    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?55888-POLK-AUDIO-Speaker-Wiring-Schematics-amp-More-Stereo-Dimensional-Array%28SDA%29

As I see it, the 1C stereo pair uses:

    HF
    2-12uf caps
    2-4.4uF caps
    4-7.5 ohm resistors
    2-2.7 ohm resistors

    LF
    2-20uF caps
    2-40uF caps

2-16mH inductors (optional, but other folks have replaced these SDA inductors to good effect.)
All other inductors would be optional, but be very careful to get correct resistance along with the proper inductance.

I swear that if those were my speakers, I'd stuff in 5.8uF (5.6uF is close enough, and more readily available) caps instead of the 4.4uF caps, and try RDO-198 tweeters. I would also order four 7-ohm, and four 6.5 ohm resistors to tune the treble balance; substitute lower-value resistors for the 7.5-ohm units if the treble needs a bit of boost.

There's no way I'd pay $500 for those parts. I might pay $200, WITH the 16mH inductors, including the shipping to my door. If pursuing the 5.8uF cap modification, another ~$210 for the four 198 tweeters. Others will disagree. I'm aware that many on this forum don't see the humor in budget-priced film caps.

Shurkey for the rta's to get good caps say clairity SA or ESA it will be at least 5/600 min (thats doing them right) to do them with lesser "cheep caps" (to me) is a waist of time and money. If the caps u listed are correct for the sda1c's they wound be cheeper than the RTA to recap just due to the # of caps. And that is what i was trying to figure out
    thanks
