Play on Clipdat's recent thread but here's my new ride. 2013 Honda Fit Sport. Not fast by any stretch but pretty peppy and fun as hell to drive. Get's about the same miles per tank as my Odyssey that it replaced but only costs 1/2 as much to fill...

    Yes, practical indeed, perhaps you should post it on the frugalmoms.net/forum. They'll love it.

    Just kidding, I like it, not really, but good for you. Carbon footprint is important right, not to me, but hey I gotta mini-van so who am I to judge. Actually I dont, my wife does. I have a Jeep with rust and leaks oil and anti-freeze and tranny fluid. I keep it clean though,not really I never wash it. I bought big tires for though, heck yea I did, but they didnt fit, oops. Anyone need tires? Just kidding I lifted it so they would fit. Then I couldnt get it out of my garage, oops. Thats not true, only a 3in lift. Nice car though man, I love that shade of red.

    Sweet color! Did you get it in stick?

    I've heard good things about that car's handling ability, Honda did a great job with the chassis engineering/design and a lot of people actually like to modify them for rally/racing use.

    I like the color too, hides the dirt well :mrgreen:. Got the auto but the paddle shifters are kind of fun on the twisties. Handles like a go cart.

    Much better car. If people spent less on cars, and more on stereos, then they would know amps and cables matter. :biggrin:

    Plus, all they cost to operate is the price of electricity, and they can use it 24 hours a day.

    I like it, too - seriously considered the Fit when I bought my Fiesta.
    Manual transmission is the only way to roll as far as I am concerned (yeah, and I use vacuum tubes, too... imagine that).

    I see that now one can get a Fiesta with a six speed manual. Dang.

    I've got the 6-speed manual in my Fusion. It's it's a nice transmission, but I don't think you're missing out on too much without it.

    Nice, the hatchbacks are back. I like automatics cause my morning commute requires me to drink coffee, one on the wheel the other on the cup.

    They still make Fiestas? OK. I bought a Hyundai Excel in '91 that got pretty much the "same MPG" as this new Fiesta seems to? That's over two decades ago, you'd think the mileage would be "better" today. In fact I remember the old Fiestas and they did just as well or even "better" than this! No?

    Not that 29/39 mpg is bad. It's just "old"!

    I suspect the improvement has come in the combination of (power + MPG) in the years since your Excel was new.

    modern cars are considerably heavier than the earlier high-mpg econoboxes, mostly due to federally mandated (and/or customer-demanded) safety-related structural and equipment improvements. The WSJ had an article a few years ago on the topic, answering the question (as above) as to why Honda could build a stripped down Civic hatchback in 1989 that delivered 50 mpg in the real world - but they cannot today.

    Ford totally redesigned the Fiesta a few years back; they then brought it back to the US in the summer of 2011. I pre-ordered one and got it in August 2011. It is a tiny car (not unlike the FIT) but really rather nicely made and equipped. Performance is marginal, but not scary, with the 5-speed manual.

    I read that (at least initially) Ford rather deliberately de-tuned the automatic's performance to maximize fuel economy... the 2011 with an automatic may well be terrifying to drive in the Boston metro area (where, as in Miami, Death before Yielding is the drivers' motto).

    I don't know about the 2012 or 2013 automatics.

    Yes, today's small cars are much more advanced that the cheapo 70s models. I refer to my Mazda 3s as a little Lexus. :smile:
