LCD display color change...?

I recently acquired from a friend, a NAD cd player that worked perfectly but was told that the display was out of it. I gave it a test run and it was exactly as described. After about 10 minutes I decided to tear into it. What I found was that the backlight bulb for the display was burned out, not the display it itself....it worked fine with a flashlight behind it.
A little Googling and I found that this was a common problem. Others with the same problem had either lived with it or converted to LED. I thought about it, but was able to track down a half dozen of the oddball axial bulbs it uses. They are on the way.
My question is this....
The original display is red, which I find obnoxious. I think either blue or green is more relaxing. Directly behind the LCD display panel is the red panel that the light filters through to give the red display. Attached to the red panel is a white film. I am assuming this is to diffuse and even out the light to prevent bright spots. The red panel is just a piece of thin plastic, translucent, maybe .5 mm thick.
Anyone know where I can get this material or suggestions for a piece of plastic that would fit the bill? The white film on the back I am not concerned about. I think I could use a piece of rice paper (ez-wider or...lol) or something similar.
I am not coming up with anything when I Google....but maybe I am just not using the right terms.
Thanks,
Tim

Some of the photographic filters and spot light filters may work. Some of those come in plastic sheeting.>

I will definately give that a look. I think I will head to town tomorrow and hit the craft store and see if I can find something there that might work.
