Subwoofer Needed?

I have an Onkyo TX DS575 receiver and the only component hooked up to it is my Music Hall turntable. My speakers are the Polk Audio Monitor 60's (floor model). My question is this: Would it be feasible to hook up a sub woofer directly from the receiver? Or would I have to run the speakers wires through the sub and then to the individual speakers?

I would just get a subwoofer with speaker level in and out. Run the speaker wire from the AVR to the sub then from the sub to the speakers. Set the crossover on the avr to full range then set the subs LPF to your liking and enjoy.
