For sale is my Pioneer SX 1050 receiver. This model is from 1976-77 and is in pristine condition. All lights and functions work as they should . The unit is a 9 out of 10 with a faceplate, glass and woodcase that are in excellent condition as is the inside. This is a nice as I have ever seen. It features 120 w/ch into 8 ohms and 170 into 4 ohms. It weighs 52 lbs and has a huge Toroidnal transformer and two 22,000uf caps the size of beer cans. Has a Class A pre driver stage and uses all discrete outputs. Inputs for 2 tape decks, aux, 2 turntables, mic, and an adaptor. Can handel 3 sets of speakers as well as headphones and as having preamp out main amp in terminals. Even the AM antena is there. As usual the original power cord has been spliced and soidered back on as I use a detachable with my gear. This is about as nice a SX 1050 as you will find and everything works. Asking $495 Thanks keith

That is a beautiful receiver sir. I remember this model, seems like it was a monster of a receiver back in '76, only outdone by it's big brother the sx-1250. GLWTS, someone should grab this one if you're looking for a vintage receiver, probably won't find one of these as well taken care of as this one.

Nice Pioneer. Equal in power to my later SX-3900 (which also has a toroid but smalller caps at 15K x 2). But the SX-1050 is of a "more solid construction" than what came after it (in its time only the SX 1250 was above it, but soon the Big Daddy SX-1980 showed up). A very nice looking piece as noted above. Not sure what these Pios are going for these days but they are getting harder to find and the bidding on ebay--forget about it!

One suggestion, though. Stop splicing through your original cords because that affects the "vintage" nature of the piece, if only "cosmetically'!

Have to agree here. Your power cable fetish has stopped me from inquiring about a few other pieces you had for sale. If your going to do that, then leave a plug there for the new owner to continue to be able to use another power cord rather than splicing the old one back on. Just saying is all, good luck on the sale.

+12 or more - that's about how many pieces I would have been interested in if they had remained vintage. Upgrading a power cable on these classic units isn't going to transform them into modern audio wonders. When I buy vintage pieces, it's because they represents a musical experience from a different era.

A few thoughts. I have been up the line in audio gear (used to work in the biz) but had to sell the high end stuff to pay the bills. Tried to get by on gear made in the last ten years but most of it is over detailed over clean and does not sound right. Started playing with vintage gear one could not afford back in HS or college. Some of it is not so good and alot is way better sounding then much of the new stuff. More natural not to mention the build quality. At least it is interesting comparing the vintage gear but to be consistant when comparing i have to use my AP oval 9s, Solo Crystal Oval and VH audio power cords. they do make a difference.

When you buy vintage gear are you using nice IC and speaker cables?? If so then that should not be done either according to what is being said here. Recapping?? You revoiced it completely if you do that and did not use caps from the exact manufacture. I used to install IEC sockets on the back of units but that is even more of an issue because you cannot put that back the way it was. By cutting the cord one can put the cord back on and if one is really worried they can open it up and soilder it right to the original spot. Often hard to get to. I have sold a lot of pieces like this (including here) and have received some like it myself . While not ideal I am not to worried about it. It will sell elsewhere. If a choice between a pretty much mint unit with its original power cord reattached and the usual beat up needs service one with its original dryed out cord still attached as it came i think to me that is a no brainer.

I think my hundreds of beyond excellent feedbacks over the last 12 years on 5 different stereo, astronmy and other sites speaks for itself.
