Employee at Best Buy lies about Monster

I was in a Best Buy the other night with a friend and the employee told us we needed one of their Monster 1000 top of the line series cables to get the true experience (audio & visual) with the new smart tv's. Basically he said we need to move up the cable line (more expensive ones) if your build a larger home theater.

Is there any way to put a stop to these lies by companies that sell Monster and cable companies like Monster that sell a 5 foot HDMI wire for more than $17 bucks? It seems just using the internet to spread the word around isn't enough.

What the hell I'll jump in again. Any HDMI certified cable is guaranteed one bit error per million or less. Another thing those heavy unflexible Monster hdmi cables become disconnected easier(due to their weight) than a standard cable. Monster combated this by increasing the thickness of the connector for a more snug connection. However this does make the use of a standard cable on the same input later less secure.

I would expect no one could see the difference in picture quality of any CERTIFIED cable under 12 ft long.

I personally use a 50ft no name cable from cabletrain.com to my 60"plasma and have never had any issues with it.EVER.

This are not your analog interconnects guys. Digital signal transmission is way more difficult to mess up. Think 1080p and dolbydigital now broadcast OTA via analog signal and then passed(in my home) thru 200ft of coax and decoded perfectly by my HDTV tuner.
Go ahead and pass some judgement regarding my education. I like these cable debates.

They push what has the highest profit margin for them.

Many, many, many years ago when I was a teenager I applied for a job at Circuit City. They had me take a 100 question test. It was the same 10-15 questions asked over and over again. They were just worded differently. The overall tone of the questions was "how well can you screw the customer?"

After completing the test I went onto the actual interview. The person interviewing me asked me which brand of printer I preferred. I said it was a tossup between HP and Epson. He agreed with my choices and said even though those are two of the best brands, they pushed Canon because of the higher profit margin and a larger kickback from Canon for each printer they sold.

I've had people try and push the Monster cables on me before. I'm usually nice and say "no thanks". If they are really pushy, I'll ask them to explain how pulses of electrons in a digital signal are going to flow any differently down a Monster cable vs. a less expensive cable. Doesn't take long to get them talking in circles.

Cut the Best Buy guy some slack. Let's face it, he/she filled out an application, and was able to read, that is the basic requirement. I'm not ripping on Best Buy, I personally have more issues with home improvement stores than any other.

This person was hired to push the products that the store sells.

Last time I had one of their employees push a product on me it was a Denon AVR. Guy wouldn't leave me alone until I said that Denon made some of the crappiest equipment I ever heard. I don't have a problem with Denon, just wanted the guy to leave me alone. I was only buying a cheap opto cable.

Wow I can see this has been "hashed out" before. I have been told the same buy Bestbuy, but knew better so I politely told them otherwise. While some of the employees are not very well informed, I have to give props to my latest experience with a BB employee, Josh. He helped me choose my new receiver while spending over an hour with during the process. He was very well informed and actually agreed with me that the 7007 was not worth $600 more than the 6007. And I actually got the 6007 for $999. I will continue to seek him out when more needs arise.

As one of only two knowledgeable BB employees in the HT department we had to teach everyone about HDMI. But still I hear them selling the cables that are most expensive. Telling them that a plasma with 600hz needs a 600hz capable cable, you need higher bandwidth size cables for 3d, and HD etc. etc.

Best buy Training does not go into detail as to how things work or what makes the cheap cable cheap but more of what makes the monster so special. In this day and age if you walk into a BB to learn about anything, and did not do any research prior to then you kinda deserve to get screwed over.

Monster marketing training to 20 watts what would you expect?

Note 100 watts is very bright people, my rating was from 4 watts to 110 watts. But recently lowered my 4 watts to .25w LED light when I seen someone pull out of the 3rd parking space to the 2nd parking space one day, I kid you not.

What do expect them to say when you walk in..."Our crap sucks and is a rip off, go down the street,"....no different when you go to a car dealership and they tell you your there car is the best on the market.

As long as this thread is "only" about HDMI short run (less the 6') cables. I think we should be OK on all fronts for now.

BB, now that's "another" story. But let's go easy on them, after all, they sell Polk?
