M30 VS M40 as surrounds or Front High
Hello everyone,
Just looking for some input on which to use where, or whether it's better to just do M40s all around?
My current set up:
Receiver: VSX-1021K
Front: M70 II
Rear: M40 II
Center: CS2 II
Considering adding Sides for 7.1 or Front High, or both if I upgrade my receiver. Question is if I should add M30s or M40s. Would M30s make a better rear and M40 a better FH?
I know there's similar threads and setups to this but I was hoping to cover this more specific topic. I had considered M50/60s as rear/sides but they would be harder to raise above ear level I'd imagine.

Do you have room to go front wide? I used m30's for front heights they worked just fine. I wouldnt do M40's for front height their to big and front heights are just ambient sound so it would be a waste. If you have enough room, Front wide is the way to go then you can get some M60's and have a wall of towers......Living Room

Welcome to Club Polk!
+1000. Great advice. Why waste money and up your "size" for what is fairly low level "ambient" sound? In fact. M-30s may be "more" than you need. Take a look at some Polk OWM3s as well!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah that is what I was thinking too, good to know. I tried front-wide with a pair of yamaha NS-AP7900EBL (my previous 5.1 package I'm upgrading from) but I couldn't tell much of a difference. Plus it was a bit difficult getting them in position. Plus from my research it seemed most people recommended Front High over Front Wide.
That aside, any thoughts on the side/rear?Receiver: Pioneer VSX-1021-K
