Hi-Fi News Analogue Test LP

I'm curious if anyone here either has, or has heard, a table/arm/cartridge combo that cleanly tracks track 9 (300Hz +18db tone) on the first side of the Hi-Fi News Analogue Test LP.

My MMF-7 w/ Goldring Eroica H can handle tracks 5,6,&7, but 9 is just too much. Just wondering if I might be able to tame that track with a cartridge upgrade, or if it will take an upgrade of the entire setup.

    Only a very high compliance cartridge could attempt to complete that torture test. I do not believe that is truly a goal you need to worry about. I had a friend with a Shure V15 on a Black Widow arm that navigated it well, but I would not trade the superior sound reproduction I have with my Benz Ebony on a medium mass tone arm for that setup (and I know my setup would not navigate track 9). Focus on the sound your system is producing not on the test record parameters. There may be other adjustments (SRA, VTA, VTF, bias, and alignment adjustments) that would be more beneficial to the final sound presentation. It never is wasted time (or money) to recheck and tweak those settings.
