Back to GM...what about the Toyota media witch hunt as they became the #1 auto seller in the US as the gov't was taking over GM. Sure might have been necessary recall but all the auto makers have them. At that time I had 6 tundra's (made in Texas) not any issues and never took them in for the recall.....but we'll see if we will be actually importing more of our own GM "American Made" parts and/or vehicles from China in the future filling there pockets and sure they will be paying lil' to none for import not doing a damn thing for our weakGDP.2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

There is nothing at all about the auto bailouts that are bad. Jobs were saved when nobody else would do it. Period. All this fox-news induced delusion is laughable. All the more so since the country recently rendered its opinion on all of that.SystemLuxman L-590AXII Integrated Amplifier|KEF Reference 1 Loudspeakers|PS Audio Directream Jr|Sansui TU-9900 Tuner|TEAC A-6100 RtR|Nakamichi RX-202 Cassette

Why Fox news...Why not CNN
My uncle is an engineer at the San Antonio Toyota plant and is quite bias since he has only been there a few short years and was and electrical engineer for a private firm prior, he even helped relocate the Tacoma plant from southern (Cali to SA, Tx) where they shared a joint venture with GM plant that GM had to move out of due to failure costing US jobs. Now although they have not finished paying their debt they are back on top and signing new deals overseas leaving the heartland holding the bag.
Toyota during the peak of the recession and media slander didn't incorporate any layoffs, instead they gave options of taking anywhere from 25k-50k severance for a 2 year employment furlow, or you could stay and even if you mopped your work area 50 times a day you still had a job. You were also allowed to schedule a come and go as you please schedule without pay but work part time and maintain your status and benefits.2-channel: Modwright KWI-200 Integrated, Dynaudio C1-II Signatures

Good point Goofy, If your going to open that door to using tax money to hand out to corporations, then you have to be ok with any of it. We should have swallowed that bitter pill back then and learned some deep lessons instead of spreading out the misery over so many years.
It should also be noted that the list of companies/banks in the link in the previous post, they also took alot of that coin and funneled it overseas. Follow the money as they say, only the trail gets more complicated these days as they have become very good at covering their tracks. This also lends itself to good old fashioned investigative journalism. Little to none is done anymore on one side of the camp while on the other side they come out like army ants. We the people used to be able to trust the free press to come out like army ants on either camp, to help keep elected officials honest and the public informed. That too has gone the way of the unicorns.
If you play connect the dots, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see where we are headed.HT SYSTEM-

Excuse me boys. But if we're going to B... about bailouts then we should "include" all the "corporate welfare" our dear Job Creators receive and all the "lobbyists" they employ to receive billions in returns from the, you guessed it, the "Gov't"! lol
Anyone have those "figures" on hand for the last decade or so? I'm sure you'd be "shocked" at their numbers! Our tax money has "always" gone to help the Big Boys, but that's OK right? Think I'll quite my job and join DeMint at the Heritage Foundation--pays better than congress, after all! lol
Let it go. After all. The amount of my tax dollars involved in this are so small that I can't even be bothered worrying over it. We "get it" already. It's like a broken record on your part: Gov't can't do anything right. Corporations rule! Right! Like I believe something as small-minded as that? Carry on the spectacularly "informative" discourse above. I've learned almost nothing so far!

Agreed CNH, not happy about any corporate charity on the taxpayer dime. Threads like this aren't ment to educate anyone, rather to get people to do their own research and not take news quips for face value. Our society has become very reactionary to news bites and I don't think I need to point out examples of that.
The amount of tax dollars as being small....well, add it all up and it becomes hundreds of billions, not small by any account. Point is, you don't worry about it because you haven't been stuck with the bill yet. Whats it up to these days, 45 g's per ? If they sent you a bill for it, you and every other person would say WTF.....no ? We both know that will never happen however, instead we get devalued dollars making everything cost more without ever paying down the principle. Kick that can down the road for another generation. My question is, when are enough people going to stand up and demand solutions without kicking that can again ? Maybe never by the looks of things, but that doesn't bode well for the generation that will eventually be stuck with the bills.
Nobody is saying government doesn't do anything right. Some things they do, but whatever they do should be limited and not open ended. Surely we can agree to that. The whole idea at the founding was a government that had constraints, limits, which today have become blurred with apparently no limits.HT SYSTEM-

Dudes, the election is over. Give it a break!
Let me finish by saying that of "all" the American politicians that I have heard speak about the Chinese, the only one who I've found credible is Jon Huntsman, not only was he our ambassador to China but he was also a student of the culture and language. Now there is one "smart" fellow. Too bad no one wanted to hear him! An intelligent politician? God forbid!
cnh
Right with you on Huntsman.
As for the GM bailout, if you do some calculations based on worker wages of the company dying, unemployment, lost taxes from no wages, sales, worker retraining, secondary and tertiary companies going under. Then various economic rescue zones, etc. the $25 billion IMHO was a better investment than the $40-50 billion in five years cost of letting them die as people are working, and a major industrial component is functioning. The only financial loser I have sympathy for is the Delphi retirees, they did get screwed, but stock and bondholders (I was one via my retirement, oh well, those are RISK investments and too many consider them guarantees). General/President Eisenhower was correct in believing a key to American defense/economic strength is a strong heavy industry/manufacturing base (though as we all know he feared the rise of the M/I complex).Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

I agree, DJ. If "they" ever physically invade us, though, I suppose we can provide them with lousy customer service.
That'll learn 'em.
I'm also brushing up on my foreign language skills. I do admit to having the assistance of online Babylon in reading your post. I do hope that any new Overlords & Masters will find that acceptable.
As Tony mentioned, do your research. I'll add (again) that you might consider going to sources that you're sure are slanted/biased. Find some thoughts/views/ideas that you're sure can't be right. Check them out. A lot of times, you'll find that you're right: they are wrong. Sometimes, though, upon further review ....
This suggestion doesn't appy, btw, to nancypelosiforempress.com. Guess I should add limbaughisgod.com, just to be apolitical. :loneranger:Sal Palooza -

LOL!!
You crack me up big guy.
I always go to a variety of sources....It's funny too what they all choose to leave out of a story to spin their own biases. As much as we hate to admit it, we are all being manipulated to meet an agenda by either side and in almost every aspect of our lives. Politics has come in to soo much of our lives it sickens me at times. From schools to the workplace, information technology, green energy, what we see, hear, eat, drive, on a daily basis. What we read in print, view on the web, listen to on the radio, watch on TV, has all become a form of manipulation/indoctrination for either of 2 camps. Free thinking....ha ha, another failed theory frowned upon. If you try and use free thinking and say it outloud, then you may go against the current trends and be attacked, beaten into oblivion, thrown down, kicked out, even fired from your job. Sounds more like Soviet Russia eh ?
Equally funny....and sad, is most don't even realize they are being manipulated thats how entrenched it is. Truth ?? Whats that but a failed theory ? There's only an end that justifies a means these days. Sure doesn't project hope for the future of mankind thats for sure.HT SYSTEM-
