mismatched amplifier gains (HT)

I run an avr using a rotel rmb1075 to power my speakers. I was wondering if I added a 2ch amp to power my mains with the rotel running the surrounds, would I run into volume level issues if the amp gains did not match? For example if I level matched, with the avr trims, at the -50db volume setting on the receiver, would the volume of the channels still be matched at the -20 db volume setting? Forgive my ignorance :) I haven't been able to figure it out on my own. Thanks

Yes, once you've calibrated the speakers to equal volume at the listening position by adjusting the trim controls for the various channels in the receiver, that balance is good for all volume settings. For example, if one amplifier has a gain of 30 times and the other 25 times, what the trim controls do is feed the 30X amp 1/6th less voltage so that it matches the 25X amp output. This relationship continues to apply regardless of what the setting of the master volume control is.
