I am slowly moving out my bose acoustimass 5.1 system for new Polk speakers. I am installing RC85i's for the front Left and Right, CsiA6 for center and Rc80i for rear L/R. for now I am keeping my Bose Acoustimass powered subwoofer, and need to know if I can avoid running my speakers to the sub before the reciever. I have a yamaha A720. Not sure the effect not routing the speakers through the sub will have on sound. Any advice would be great.

thanks

yes. the acoustimass has a lfe plug that you can use. you dont have to have everything go to it. dump that sub asap. It straight junk. The most entry level polk sub will walk all over it. I dont even know if its considered a true sub. To me its more of a bass module with a lfe connection, because it only uses 2 6.5" woofers

Great. Yes, my plan is to dump the entire Bose set up in time. Can you tell me what the LFE plug does?

Your centre speaker has the same size drivers as the "bass module" does. Doesnt say much for it.

It is just a single analog input called Low Frequency Effects (LFE). The only sound that will be transmitted to the sub using LFE is from 0-120hz, not full range audio. You use a single analog cable to go from the subwoofer pre output on your Yamaha AVR to the LFE on your sub. Some subs have a Left and Right analog input (red and white rca plugs) where one is also labled LFE. You just use one cable connected to the LFE rca plug, and some times there is a switch to designate weather your using both L&R analog inputs or the single LFE.
