Need New Receiver

I've been gathering info on receivers but would like some input and suggestions. My current receiver is an Onkyo 806, the HDMI output went out so I decided it's time to upgrade. My speakers are RTi 10's for the front, Polk center that I can't remember the model number, and RTi6's for surrounds. I also have a sub. When watching videos the sound was great, but when listening to music it was not very good. Anyway I'm looking for a receiver that will provide good sound quality as well as video. I've read where people are saying these speakers sound better with this receiver and was hoping someone had a similar set up and could recommend a receiver. My budget is about $1000 to $1500, but would consider more if necessary and no one tells my wife! At this price point most receivers will have all the inputs, outputs, and zones I need.
My room is about 16' x 14' with 12' ceiling but has an open wall on one side. I'm not sure if my music didn't sound well because of the set up or if the speakers weren't being pushed enough or what. In any case I need a new receiver and would appreciate any and all input.
Thanks Ken

Pioneer SC series.

You also might want to consider using an external amp to power them.Pioneer SC-25 | Adcom GFA-555 | KEF q900 Front | KEF q600 Center | Polk Monitor 30 Rear | Polk CS2 Rear Surround | Polk DSWPRO 660wi sub

Wow thats pretty much what I was gonna say. You can do a SC amp which has nice power and sound or, you can do a lower level Pioneer elite AVR with preouts and get a power amp. Thats what I did.HT Rig Samsung 64F8500 |Pioneer Elite BDP-52FD|Pioneer Elite VSX-32| Two Carver TFM-15cb Bridged for mains|Polk Audio RTiA5 Cherry|Polk Audio CsiA6 Cherry|Polk Audio T-15 Heights|Polk Audio FXia6 Surround|DIY 8cuft Dayton Ultimax 15" powered with a Crown XLS1000

SC series should be plenty of power and sounds great with Rti's. That's what I did and I don't regret it.

Thanks for the info gentlemen. The Elite series sounds like the way to go. Would there be any advantage with a receiver and an amp vs. just a receiver. My set up is currently 5.1 but I also want to add some true surround speakers and make it 7.1 in the near future probably after this Xmas thing is over.
Thanks again, KenPanasonic 50"

You tend to get better quality of sound because of a dedicated power supply and a few other things. IMO its not such a wise idea to pay so much for the SC series and then use a external amp. Alot of what your paying for is in the ICE amps. You could save some cash and step down to a lower AVR and use pre-outs for either a 2 or 5 channel amp. Its just two different ways to accomplish the same goal.HT Rig Samsung 64F8500 |Pioneer Elite BDP-52FD|Pioneer Elite VSX-32| Two Carver TFM-15cb Bridged for mains|Polk Audio RTiA5 Cherry|Polk Audio CsiA6 Cherry|Polk Audio T-15 Heights|Polk Audio FXia6 Surround|DIY 8cuft Dayton Ultimax 15" powered with a Crown XLS1000

Yeah, I will probably buy either one of the more powerful SC's or go with an amp and lesser receiver. Thanks for your opinions.Panasonic 50"

Ken, a fine buy to fit your needs and stay under your budget is the factory refurbished 818(including among other features the top Audyssey MultEQ XT32) at Accessories4less for about $800.

I'm loving the Marantz SR7007. Friend of mine owns it and it's fantastic.
If my receiver dies today, that would most likely take its place. -
I went and listened to several receivers today and ended up with the Marantz 6007. I've had a few problems with my last few Onkyos so I wanted to go a different direction, it was hard because the 818 sounds like a great receiver especially at the price, but in the end I wanted to go elsewhere. Anyway I listened to the Marantz 6007 and 7007, the Denon 3313CI, and Pioneer Elite SC61 and SC65....they all sounded very good and I would've been happy with any of them it was very hard to choose, I took up a salemans time for about 1.5 hrs. I really liked the sound of the Marantz and I was able to listen to 6007 out on the floor with noise and all....I was still impressed, and when he told me that the 6007 was on sale for $1000 I figured for $800 less than the 7007 with the same features just a little less power it was a decent deal.
I want to thank everyone again for your help, it was greatly appreciated. Thanks KenPanasonic 50"

Had the Marantz 6005 and loved it. Now I have the Yamaha Aventage 820 and I can't tell the difference. Both excellent and the best AVRs I've had. Each has tons of power for a home theater, unless you live in an arena. If I'm you I would get TWO quality subwoofers, with one near your left speaker and the other near your right speaker. Dial them in and enjoy yourself.
Two Channel Setup:
Speakers: Wharfedale Opus 2-3
Integrated Amp: Krell S-300i
DAC: Arcam irDac
Source: iMac
Remote Control: iPad Mini
3.2 Home Theater Setup:
Fronts: Klipsch RP-160M
Center: Klipsch RP-160M
Subwoofer: SVS PB12NSD (X 2)
AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A2030
Blu Ray: Sony BDP-S790
TV Source: DirecTV Genie -
A4L had a Sherwood Newcastle (R-970 i think) brand new for 550 bucks shipped. Trinnov EQ. That plus a 500-1000 dollar 2 ch amp would be a killer upgrade and make those 10s reach their capabilities. It is also nice to have the power if you ever want to change your fronts. Just opens up way more possibilities (and your wallet)
