SDA's are pretty much killer speakers...now OK...some people don't like them. The problem is these speakers don't work to there full ..rock on Knock you socks off....unless they have the room to do it. I've had my SDA 1C for years...but if you try and put them in a small room..like 12X12.....well they sound ok..but..NOT what they can do.

the problem is again..you need to feed these speakers with massive power..they also need a good media feed..a tube CD player is nice...LOL

Now the Polk RTi stuff...just not close..I don't know about the LSi or the new M stuff. So i can't say good or bad on these.

What i can say....if you have the room for just a set of SDA 1C's..you have the right power, and the right input of media......there just hard to beat. Yes the SL2000...need to be replaced..but once you do that..i'm not sure you can beat these speakers. You don't need a sub...you don't need anything...IF you have the right power....

The room is key..if you have the space..the 1C's are massive..But your dealing with ..or at least I'm dealing with a 17X30 foot room..and i sit 14 back. The SDA sound..again if you like it..is just far beyond what most other speakers can give you....

But just my opinion on this....LOL

    Interesting......
I have a set of 1.2 TL's in a 15'x17' room powered with a mere 300W older Sansui BA 5000 amp, and all I can say is Jeepers......
I wouldn't really want much more rock your socks off then that.
These things will rattle my NEIGHBORS windows with ease!!
As far as the SDA effect.... I guess I don't really notice it much when listening, but I do miss it when listening to other systems.
I'm currently upgrading my A1A cable to the new 1000va transformer, and I'm thinking I will notice a big difference there.

Actually, I had 1C's in a 12x12 room. Ideal? No. But they were incredible. They completely overpowered the room until I put some room treatments in. Once I threw a bunch of GIKs in there everything came together beautifully. I sold them and now I have my 4.1's, which can also easily handle a room that size. What you're saying is true to an extent, SDA's will be at their best in a larger room with good acoustics, but that doesn't mean they're not good in a smaller room.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

No..i'm not saying there bad...in any case...yes they will work in a small room. When you put them in a large room..with the right amp..man they just become massive..and far from what most speakers can come close too.

Ok, so then I'm not sure I get the point of your question?

If I'm understanding the point of this thread correctly, you're sort of asking if SDA's are all that great since you need a good room, good power, good source, etc.

The thing you need to remember is this: While it's very cool that you can find a set of SDA's for a few hundred bucks (I paid $250 for my 1C's from a seller on Craigslist), these are NOT cheap speakers. In 1989, a set of 1C's would have run you $1500. Adjusted for inflation, that's what? $3,000 in today's money? $4,000? Do they need good power? Of course. But would you go out today and drop $4000 on a pair of speakers that you intend to plug into a $100 amp? Of course not. These are high-end speakers that you are able to get on the used market today for a song compared to what they cost new. But they're still demanding in terms of all the other things that need to synergize to get to the point where you have a good hi-fi system.

There is really not point to the question...is more...way would you buy other speakers...LOL I have had these speakers since new...1987... i have moved them to different houses over the years

    I had them in a 12x12 room....NOT like there bad...by any means.

BUT..you put them in a large room..position them right..as to give them enough room to breath sort of speak...they become massive. The sound you hear in your seating position...is just massive and all over the place. Now i'm not saying there better then what Polk puts out now.....since i have never heard them in the first place. But they can pretty much kick the crap out of most of the stuff....they can kick the crap out of the RTi 9's...and are not really close...so......if you want 2 channel stereo speakers...IF you have the room..why not go for the SDA's....LMAO

Well then we agree..........sort of
I was merely stating that I have the big boy's in a relatively small room, and they are just great...
But you guy's have me thinking as I've never heard them in a larger open area.

SDA's seem to do "marginal" better than most?

In my rent house hell the 2A's are 5'9" apart and 2'6" from the side walls. Spaced out 11" from the back wall (used to be the front of a carport). I can kick the wall from the outside and the floor plate moves.

A rug on the floor (sheet goods on concrete). Blackout curtain centered behind the cabinet. Dog bed in each corner.

    The tunes ain't bad.

    LMAO......well i'm retired..my happy hour can start at 10am...LOL

But as far as SDA's....well. You really have to like them...some people may hate them. I've had to move a number of times. I've put these speakers in different rooms. They don't sound "BAD" in any room...BUT

They can sound massive in a large room..placed right and the right power to push them.
