HI,
Those of you that enjoy SACD's and you enjoy jazz. Go to Telarc's site and order "Monty Alexander Meets Sly and Robbie"
It is by far the best SACD I have ever heard. I have about ten now. In fact it's the only one that I feel gives the true dynamics of SACD sound. But then again I am looking for new rear speakers so I can enjoy the others like I want to. If you don't have a SACD player get one. I have not listened to any other Cd's since I have had mine. I purchased this about 8 months ago.

I was really close to getting Ludacris' Chicken and Beer on SACD today, but I decided I'd rather have it on vinyl. For real man. lol

This is kinda of ironic. I wrote a book in 2002 and in one of the chapters was entitled "A Real Man". I haven't listened to vinyl since the days of The Lettermen. I just can't handle the scratches. I live in the area of Sun City, AZ and there are Estate Sales every weekend. The old live older, but sooner of later their time comes. There is always a stack of vinyl that no one seems to even look at in a box or laying out on a coffee table. I have often wondered the value of those records and the memories they have. Have a great week. -gle

Fireshoes - LOL I was going to do the same thing....but SACD sounds better for me now. :D

GLE- Welcome to the forum! :)

I also am new to the SACD format, and have been blown away by its dynamic range. I have always been a fan of MFSL, Gold redbooks, from an early "Ultradisc" age. They made me want a better sound from the first notes.

F1Nut, another forum user, introduced me to SACD. I have been hooked ever since. I think any high resolution format is at least trying to help those of us that quest for better sound.

DVD-A, HDCD or SACD....I like the efforts very much.

Norah Jones has to be my favorite SACD, to date. I have never heard your recomendation, I will check it out.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    PolkHead,
I don't know how anyone could find better sound than that which comes from an SACD. I don't have Nora Jones on SACD, but I do have her on 16bit. She is something else. I have both Sony and Telarc, and I feel the Telarc is pumping out the better quality SACD's, but I must have multichannel for me to really enjoy it. Also they are not pumping them out fast enough for me. In the evening I can't even concentrate on anything but the music when I sit down. I don't want to read, I just want to listen. I do have some probelms with my the rear speakers. I have LS70's for mains and they are ten+ years old, but great sounding speakers. I have changed one driver at Polks expense and that was last summer. But I have Mirage's in the rear and am looking for Polks to replace them. The Mirages aren't pumping out the sound I want from the rear. It is because they are on a shelf 6 feet above my heard. A Crutchfield suggested the LSi7's, but they are out of my price range so I am in a quandray right now. Those are between $600-800 a a pair. This guy is not made of money. Have a great day.-gle

ah, we got another Monty's fan here. Checkout his other albums too:

My fav: Montreux Jazz Festival - Montreux (redbook)

    Also: My America (Telarc SACD)
    Jamboree (Telarc SACD)
    Ray Brown, Monty Alexander

For full exploitation of 5.1 format, My America is great! Happy listening...
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

    gle,

Glad to see you've discovered SACD, but we've got to get back into 2 channel. That surround stuff just doesn't sound real.

    Have a great week :D

    Two different animals.

Live music is played in front of you with reflections off the walls, etc. of the building. With good gear, speakers and a good room you can get similar results. I get sound coming from all over the place, thanks SDA's.

With movies you are suppose to be in the middle of it with stuff going on all around you, so surround works better for that format.

LC - F1 only knows movies that are black and white, and in mono.

F1 - You forgot about the Sound Engineer and the crew behind it all...not just equipment. You can have a million dollar setup sound like shite.

;>] Well, yeah, I mean a movie isn't a movie unless it's black & white and recorded mono. Surround sound? Flibbity-flew!

    Good point!

I've offered a reason why music sounds natural in 2 channel playback, so some of you guys that think music sounds natural in surround sound want to explain why.

    Oh yeah, Doro...fu ;)

Yeah, I know you do because what 5.1/6.1 gives you doesn't sound right. They try to hype up sounds that just aren't there when you listen to a live performance or good 2 channel recording. I know some of you guys think multi-channel music is the thing, but that's because you haven't listened to music on a good 2 channel set up. I suggest that the next time you listen to a live performance make mental notes, go home and play the same group/music on your multi-channel set up and see if it sounds anything like the live performance did. The question you have to ask yourself is do I want fake sounding (surround sound) music or as close as I can get (2 channel) to the real thing.
