Checking amps and other equipment for compliance.

I have seen posts and discussions here telling how to use a volt/ohm meter to see if, say, an amp is putting out same power on both channels, or your speakers are presenting with the same impedance.
I might not even have the right functions listed that can be checked, but you get the gist.
If you can type instructions here, guide me to a thread here, or lead me to a site that explains things in pretty plain english because im old, much appreciated.
BTW, I will be checking an adcom gfa555, an adcom gfp750,some mirage om10s that are biwire capable, and probably some speakers that only have one set of binding posts, if that changes how its done.
