rta 11tl vs rta-12????

seems like there are quite a but of rta-11t fans. i have seen them, but not heard them. i allways wonderred why they look so much different than my rta-12b's. both say rta, but seems like a completly different line. am i missing something here? i gotta say i love my rta-12's, so how do these speakers compare?

    They are different lines. The 11's came out in the early 90's. The 12's in the mid-late 90's.

    actually, the RTA-12's came out early to mid 80's. My 12C's were built in 1984.

    Were those the boxy ones that looked like a 50's kid's show robot? Man, I can't keep these straight, anymore. How many product #'s does Polk have with a 12 in it?

    glad i'm not the only one confused. yes, the rta-12 is the one with the tweeter on top (with the crossover as well, i guess it does look robotish). seems like they were 2 different lines. i guess the rta-11tl and the likes were the rebirth of the RTA or something. do the rta-11's sound the same? different? better? worse? do they sound even close?

    The RTA 11TL sounds way better than the rta-12. The 11TL sounds similar like the 1.2TL, 2.3TL and the 3.1TL without SDA soundstages. That means a way way better than any Polks
    lines.

    I beg to differ. Both the 11 and the 12 sound good, and all share drivers from the same line as the SDA series.

    The 11 and 12 are laid out differently, but your active drivers are the same on each (minus the 'tl' version), and the 12 has a 'better' crossover network.

    i guess it is a matter of opinion. i hope i get to here the rta-11 someday so i can form my own. thanks for the feedback guys.

    I didn't spend a lot of time with the RTA 12c's that I sold Troy, but I did listen to them. They do sound different than the RTA 11T's and TL's. I've had four pair of those, and they image better because of the narrow front-baffle.

    i really like the imaging of my rta 12's, if mr grand says the rta 11t's imaging is better, i have to hear these things someday.

    R.T.A. 12's vintage 1980's have the tweeter in a cloth grill set on top the 3 speaker array housed in a 40 pound wood enclosure.

    Extremely uncolored sound. Very high efficiency but can handle 350 watts. Supple low frequency reproduction, but coupled with the L.F. 14 low frequency monitor with a dual drivers, the sound is hard to beat.

    I still have mine and the sound stage is still gorgeous and breath-taking.
