Thinking about getting one to maintain the hardwood floors in the new house. Does anyone have experience with one or a similar product?

Had one for a while (maybe a year or so) until it died. More of a novelty than anything else. If you get one make sure its at a discount. Cheers.

They suck John. Aside from being annoying as all hell. Batteries don't last long either and you'll find yourself tripping over these things.

They have this new stuff now to keep dust off of hardwood floors.....it's called carpet.

I don't have any experience with Roombas in maintaining floors. If, however, you want information on Roombas and cats, let me know. Videos available upon request.

Personally I think a cat with a duster tied to his tail and a laser light is just as good and more entertaining.

We've had fairly good luck with the "Mint" robot sweeper on ceramic tile -- should also work well on wood floors. No vacuum, just a sweeping cloth, so much, much quieter than a Roomba. Something to consider.

I think the Roomba makers (iRobot) recently bought the Mint from the original maker (Evolution Robotics).

They work pretty good for us with 2 Gt. Danes and 3 cats. We have gone through several models, but my wife buys them at BB&B and they have an extremely generous return policy. I would say they work best as a daily maintenance sort of thing and not at all on carpet.

They are loud and annoying, take forever to navigate around a room, and they do a poor job of picking things up. More like a robotic broom than a vacuum. That said, they might be OK to do light-duty work if there's a time of day when no one is home and the Roomba can wander for hours without disturbing anyone. Wouldn't count on them to keep the floors spotless, however. Worked for a law firm that had one sweep the office at night.

    World's Best Cat Toy!

It chases them all over the house. More fun than a laser pointer.

Doesn't pick up cat hair, chips, paper clips, or anything that you can see.
