Yeah, stupid as can be. Tell ya, if I was paying that tuition to have my kid exposed to those nutjobs, I'd pull him in a second. Funny how kinky sex clubs is cool, but to have an armed forces recruiter on campus is like someone just ran over a puppy. Yet we wonder why kids come out of college all twisted on reality. More sad is your paying them to do it.HT SYSTEM-

You know, in some ways you can blame "market forces" for what is happening at places like Harvard. Too many "academics" having to compete with each other in an ever expanding marketplace of ideas where the more "bizarre" and/or "unique" your research or course or group is, the more titillating (punning intended), interesting--or dare we say, the more cultural capital it has. Now there was a prime P.M. idea we can thank the French for (Bourdieu)!
The worst period for academic courses was during the Postmodern turn in theory that dominated the late 80s and much of the 90s. Eurocentric theory that masqueraded as a "critique" of itself? A lot of this would have been absolutely hilarious had NOT so many academics enhanced their stature and careers by making arguments that most of us had moved beyond as nihilistically rebellious teenagers?
I remember a paper I wrote in the '90s: A tongue and cheek review of the excesses of the history of the Cultural Revolution in China (66-76) and the similarities that Postmodern Theory and Thinking and criticism had to the most "irrational" moments of the CR. That was a "risky" thing to do at an academic conference back then. But history has been on "my" side since!
Kinky, kitcsh, pastiche, simulacra, etc., etc. Ah the '90s as great a period of B.S. we have not seen in quite some time! Which is not to say that it was ALL of one piece. It was not; as with most movements, there were a "few" insights.

Knew a guy in college who was into bondage and was part of a bondage network which had periodic club meetings and so on and so forth. It had nothing to do with the college. One day I casually mentioned it to some other friends while he was in the room. It was sort of like, "Speaking of bondage, you know who his mr. bondage himself..." To my surprise, he was embarrassed and upset about my blab. I had no idea he was so concerned about the stigma of it. The way I saw it was that he was at least was gettin' some, and that it was something most guys would be proud of. Not to mention, his most frequent partner was a fairly sexy lady.
Really an all-around, great guy, too. He's an engineer nowadays and not doing too shabby especially when considering the market. Married and so on and so forth. There's plenty of guys out there who aren't into weird, "kinky" sex and yet they're so "level-headed" and "wholesome" that they feel it necessary to get trashed and smack the wife and kids around every other night. And then there's this friend of mine who is about as trustworthy as they come.
I doubt there's a campus in the country that is immune to offensive sex rituals. One might pull his kid from Harvard, but then put him where?Denon X7200WA
