I just picked up a pair of JBL 62Ts at GW for $20. They have a few scratches but otherwise look good. The cabinets are very solid. I wasn't able to listen to them yet. Anyone know anything about them?

Well crap! One has a dead tweeter. It is a 022TI and don't seem to be too plentiful. Goldwood makes a near clone that I may try just to get them working and flip them or give them to my son.

Where in Md are you? There's a pair on the York, PA CL for not much money. Maybe pick them up for parts?

Not affiliated with the seller in any way. I considered picking them up myself to build a small system for my son, but haven't been able to justfy the drive for a $40 pair of speakers.

That is interesting; they have the 026ti tweeter vs the 022ti in mine.

I doubt there is much difference between those two tweeters. I'm pretty sure they're just different "runs". The diaphragm is the same as my 035tis (or whatever that number is...a bit more robust and upscale version that was also used in studio monitors of that period).

Strangely, I also picked up some JBLs today, lower models (2600) which happen to have two dead tweeters? At least I get no highs. I opened them up and did not see any immediately noticeable problems inside, nothing burnt, no leaking caps, etc. I then disconnected one tweeter and tried to run it on some live amp wires, "nothing", no sound. I don't have a meter but I'd say these cosmetically perfect tweeters must be fried. Now have to find replacements as well.

In any case, the above speakers should be pretty good once back in action (yours that is). Mine are of lesser quality.

Did you check these out? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=270-165

I am not sure how well they match electrically / acoustically but they look darn close physically. The frequency range says 3.5KHz - 20KHz, which would be too high from my crossover point of 3KHz. However, looking at the graph that they provide, it looks like it goes down to ~2KHz. For the price, I may just buy a couple and use them for now.

Those look like a great match for your series. The 2XXX, 3XXX series does not have that kind of dome. It's more like a concave 1" surround with a 1/2" dome at its center. And has a different plastic mount. X over is still at 3Khz (must be some standard for JBL two ways of that time).

Here's a shot of my cheaper version titanium (lower series).
