Boardwalk Empire - Episode 11

Unbelievable, easily among the best in the whole series IMO. Didn't really understand the meaning of the title of this episode, "Two Imposters", until I came across the Rudyard Kipling poem that Eddie, Nucky's man servant, attempted to recite in his delirium after he was shot:

If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream---and not make dreams your master;
If you can think---and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn-out tools;

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings---nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And---which is more---you'll be a Man, my son!

Rudyard Kipling

This episode had amazing acting, plot twists and is a generally great set up for the season finale next week.

    Great show last week. Good to see Nucky getting a little more brutal this season. Love seeing Michael Williams (Omar from The Wire) as Chalky, another great character.

    I have watched BE since the beginning and have always thought it was just ok. Better than a lot of stuff on TV but not up to some of the other HBO and Showtime series. But I have to agree that this was the best episode ever. It's the first time I found Nucky scary.

    Nice quote, drummin.

    Chumlie, The Wire is still my 2nd favorite TV drama ever, and I really liked Omar on it. Breaking Bad is just slightly better.

    Al Capone's line at the end of the episode is the best of the series:

    "I've been on the road for 18 hours, I need some hot chow, a bath, then we sit down and talk about who dies."

    SIGH. I hate this time of year. 3/31/13 is a loooong time away for some Thrones! Agreed, this was a great season of BE, I can't wait for the next one.

    My favorite part was when Richard (disfigured war vet) gets laughed at and kicked out of the bordello and he leaves quietly but the next time we see him, he's laying out his assortment of weapons on the bed.

    I like Richard alot - very complex character. Came back from the war scarred inside and out. Loyal to the end. I think he's determined to save little Tommy.

    The big question to me is will he kill Gyp and Gillian. To me they're both the most evil characters in the whole series. I came to really despise Gillian when she shot the guy up with heroin and then drowned him in order to get an "official cause of death" for Jimmy. And just when I didn't think she could stoop lower than sleeping with her son - she's truly sick.

    Hm. I'm not 100% we have seen the last of Jimmy. I could be wrong.

    If we haven't seen the last of him everything to date would have to have been a dream :lol: Last season Nucky shot him in the face at close range after he shot him in the chest with what looked to be a large bore revolver.

    Just why in the heck Nucky didn't have a couple Thompson guns squirreled away in his suite is puzzling ! I was sad to see Slater come home in a box. :( On an unrelated note......Xfinity has yet to make the last episode of S.O.A. (ep. 12) available on demand in my market area, WTF? I thought that was s'posed to be a next day thing!

    gdb, I don't know how it works there, but here it the last episode of SoA isn't available OD until the next episode airs, so basically it's 8 days later. Great show, btw.

    Great finish. Loved the way Nucky handled Rothstien in the end. Politics at its finast. Now the wait begins for HBO's Game Of Thrones.
