SL2000 Tweeters in SDA SRS 1.2TLs

So I put SL2000 replacement tweeters (RD-0194) in what I thought were SDA SRS 1.2 Speakers (back in 2007). Turns out they were actually SDA SRS 1.2TL speakers.

The sound sounds very good to me. Should I replace the tweeters with RD-0198 (SL3000) or leave as is?

Just found out my wise tweeter replacement error a few days ago. I'll be out $48x8 if I replace them.

What would you do?

Replace them and do it now as they are very different tweeters. You can sell the old ones on eBay to recoup some of the money.

Listen to F1nut. He knows what he's doing. The RD0-198's sound better and are the correct tweeter for you 1.2TL's.

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

When you installed the "wrong" tweeters...did you have to modify the wire terminal ends to fit the replacement tweeters?

Excellent point. The hot terminal on the 194 and 198 have different sized quick connects. If you were able to fit the female connector from the wiring harness in you 1.2's onto the + tab on the 194's then they're the correct tweeter as is. The 198 has a slightly larger tab, and you would have needed to put a wider female quick connect on the wire (or direct solder) in order to make a connection to the 198. So if you didn't need to fiddle with the wire, I'm quite sure that the 194 is the correct tweeter.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Don't the MW's (if original) have some sort of black stamp on the back, like mine say 2.3 TLS and manufacture date

Yes, they do. The backs of the SL2000 or SL3000 are clearly marked as well.

Not always reliable though. Drivers have been swapped around many times in many speakers over the many years. My CRS+ drivers went into one of my 1C's before I sold them, because I fried all of the drivers in one of the speakers. They say CRS+ on them even though they're in 1C's.

The mid-woofers in my 1B have paper labels saying they're for the SRS2.

True enough, the blade/blade SRS2 uses the same 6509 MW as the 1B.

Yea I guess Polk would not keep any records on their speakers referencing serial numbers and date of manufacture on their models etc. It would be neat if I could find out the original owner or at least the store that they were sold from, a family tree of sorts.
