Need advice for a 7.2 speaker selection for dedicated home theater room
I'm planning on getting my basement finished and decided to put a dedicated home theater room in the plans.
The dimensions are 15' 6" W x 21' 3" L x 8' 5" H
Listening preference will be 80% movies, 20 % music
I want to get the room prewired for a 7.2 speaker setup but was wondering what you would recommend for speakers in each.
The speakers would be slowly bought first and then the electronics (TV, receiver, DAC, maybe preamp) the following year.
Debating on the RTi's or the LSi M's
If I had to get the electronics right now, it would be something like this:
Recever: Denon AVR-3313CI, Marantz SR7005 or Denon AVR-4520CI or Marantz SR7007
DAC: Peachtree Nova125 or Peachtree iNova
Amplifier (optional): Emotiva XPS-2 or XPS-3
RTi Speakers
Fronts: RTi A3 or RTi
Center: CSi A6
Surround: FXi A6
Rear Surround: ???
Subwoofers (2): ???
LSi M Speakers
Fronts: LSi M 703
Center: LSi M 706c
Surround: LSi M 702 f/x
Rear Surround: ???
Subwoofers (2): ???

If you are only running a 2 for 3 channel amp for a 7.x channel system, I would go with RTi series. If I were to open up to all channels amplified, THEN I would consider LSiM.
On top of the aforementioned consideration, I would certainly listen to the two sets of speakers and weigh the sonic characteristics MOST heavily. I have not heard the LSiM, but I own the LSi series and have heard the RTi. The two speaker series sound significantly different. I have to imagine that LSiM also sounds completely different from the RTi.
My 2 decibels.Do you hear that buzzing noise? -

I've had the older Rti series (Rti12 front, CsiA 6 center) which sounded very good for movies/games, music was so so. But for home theater you can't beat the LsiM series. The detail is unreal.

Not sure which back surrounds to use with that LSiM setup though...

Why not forget the rear surround and go with the wide channel, you'll widen your sound stage and increase the sound as well.
My room is also 15.5 and accommodates four RTiA9's and a pair of Epic Empires across the front. I have both the XPA2 and 3, my FXiA6's are fed by my AVR. Check it,

For home theater I'd go with the RTis, the Marantz 7005, and forget the rest (dac, preamp, amp, etc.). Use the money saved to buy the biggest TV you can get.

Well, I don't mind getting the LSi's because I was gonna just work on getting the speakers and maybe any amps thoughout the year and then the following year get the receiver and TV (hopefully 4k TV's will be reasonable then).
So that being said, I'm still not sure what back surrounds to use in an LSi M speaker setup and "that's" what i need advise on right now. -

I'm sorry, did you not see my post regarding "rear" surround channel.
You can do the test yourself, I did. Place "any" speaker in three different positions but one at a time to determine which of the three channels i.e; rears, wides or heights gets the most content through it.
I came to the conclusion that both heights and rears together don't carry enough content to equal the content through the wide channel but hey, if rears is what you want, a guys got to get what a guy wants. Do yourself some educational justice and do the test.
As far as what to get, in the LSiM series, I would imagine you could save some money and use RTiA3's in the rear spot.Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2

Maybe you could use a set of the lsi-7s that Polk has in the e-bay store for 359 a set, or lsim-703 bookshelves, or the lsi in walls or ceiling speakers. I would cheap out and get a set of lsi-15 for 799.00 lsi-7 359.00 and an lsic center for 400.00- 500.00, and spend my money on good amps, and a killer sub. 1700 or so for the lsi, vs 4000 or better for lsi-m, guess I am cheap. If you go lsi get the center bought quick. You could also use a single lsi9 for a center channel. If you have a Frys electronics nearby they have the lsi-9 for 419 a pair, sell the extra on this board.

Yeah, I'm kinda leaning towards the LSi7's for the back surrounds, especially for the price right now and "should" be a better match than an RTi series. Then maybe an Emotiva XPA-2 for the Fronts and an XPA-5 for the rest. Should provide enough power I think.
Right now I just wanted to work on purchasing both pairs of surrounds since they will be mounted right away. The rest of the speakers I could get later. -
Or, you can completely ignore my posts, best of luck.

I'm not ignoring your post, just waiting for some different opinions is all.
I don't think that an RTi speaker is going to match up as much as an older LSi speaker. Also, i'm already having my home theater room pre-wired for the back surrounds and wanted to at least get those two surround speakers purchased (already ordered the LSi M f/x for the sides) and then after the room is finished, I could slowly introduce more speakers. That "could" potentially be a set of Front Wides, but for now, that's not a big concern. Sorry if you took it that way. -
No worries, just been there is all, and wanted to give you a better option for overall sound.
The content that comes through rears is so minimal, it really wouldn't matter what speaker you use back there. Timbre matching is not critical for side surrounds much less rears although I prefer a matching series for my set up.
You can save yourself a lot of money by putting Monitor 30's in the rear, or step up and go with FXiA4's.
Anyway, it sounds like you have your plan mapped out and probably one heck of set up coming, again, best of luck to you.Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2
