Is this something that's done? Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

You could probably find a pair of Monitor 40's for less than 2 CS1, and would work better. Just IMHO.
    My humble setup...

    ...is no more.

    I agree, i'd run a CS1 with dual monitor 40's.

I would think having 3 tweeters that far apart on the center channel might widen the focus of the center image. What are you trying to accomplish by using 3 smaller speakers rather than one large one?

Thanks for the input so far.

I recently purchased a CS1 and just liked the way the horizontal profile looked. That's when the vision of 3 of them on my a/v cabinet popped into my head. Currently I'm using a pair of RS20 speakers for my left and right and was hoping to streamline the look. How would placing the Monitor 40s horizontally affect my sound stage?

The pic below is very similar to how my equipment is setup. However, instead of the L/R speakers being floorstanding, they sit on the shelf with the center.

    Thanks again for any input.

Negatively. They were designed to stand vertically.

What are RS20 speakers? I'm not familiar with that model.

R20 -- Looks like a "S" need to find a new home and decided that "R" looked friendly. Thanks for all the input everyone.

What you will end up with is a very wide yet very thin soundstage. A flat plain if you will. Move a foot or two up or down verticaly and it will drop away fast. Now, using three IDENTICAL speakers across the front is a ideal set up. Such as three Monitor 40s.
Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!

Try placing them how u want and test. You'll be the judge. I've seen polks here lay their rti38s and csi unconventional ways and happy with the result. U got a vision for free, by all means explore. Ideally u want ur speakers to be all identical but with space n visual constraints we don't do that so the fact that u want all ur front stage to be identical ur on the right track!
