Back From Thanksgiving Road Trip - did you go anywhere?

I got back yesterday from a Thanksgiving roadtrip with the family.
We drove from San Diego to Flagstaff, AZ for our first layover on our way to see my folks in Santa Fe, NM for the Holiday.
We took a side trip for 1/2 day to the Grand Canyon on our way to Monument Valley, AZ for a full day guided tour.
Then on the road again to Santa Fe to spend a couple of days just relaxing, some hiking, and some good food!
I posted up some shots I took to share - they ain't professional - just a small compact and they don't do justice to the in person experience:

We stayed close. Only 3 hours away (from Maine) to visit our son and his girlfriend in Boston. Came back Saturday so as to MISS the traffic FUSS! Our boy lives near the center of the city so we did the urban thing. No pics, unless one likes office buildings. lol
Sounds like you had a more varied drive?

The drive was good - I love the open road -esp the Southwest.
I40 east out of Riverside to Flagstaff did have LOTS of 18-wheelers, though - so always having to pass them, but there were plenty of spots where it was just me and the gorgeous landscape.
Coming home, I took the 'southern' route down I25 from Santa Fe to Hatch - traffic was light to none.
Now, heading back west on I10/I8 through Tucson/Phoenix/Yuma/San Diego was a different story - all the motor homes and trailers going west did slow us down a bit.
Still - I enjoyed the drive, but that's just me.

Erik, Many years ago, while in the Air Force, 2 friends and I drove from Monterey, Calif. to San Angelo, Texas. We stopped at the Grand Canyon, Vegas, Carlsbad Caverns, and Tombstone Arizona along the way. Lovely country out in the Southwest. I will probably never get to do that again, but it's a nice memory.
This Thanksgiving, my wife and I drove from Charlotte, NC to Pennsylvania to visit family. The drive along the Virginia mountains is very pretty also, but in a completely different way. We left on Wednesday, so expected heavy traffic along I81 and of course, we got it, but I thought it was a bit lighter than previous years. -
I spent Thanksgiving in Chattanooga TN and went off roading with my uncle and friends. Got some pics of that I will post later on. Great views of the TN river from high up.
Also spent Black Friday Vinyl shopping with TNHNDYMAN and CoolJazz in Knoxville TN and then listening (too briefly) to CoolJazz's Open Baffle setup at his house.

Hatch NM is a funky little place, we ventured down to the chile fest a few years back.
No road trip for TG here, we hosted the feast which for me was a lot of work with the honey do list, but I did get a lot of crap done I've been putting off.

Sure did!
The Grand Canyon was awesome and Monument Valley was incredible!
Flagstaff was a neat place to stay at on the way out.
We stayed at Benson on the way back as it was *exactly* 1/2 way between Santa Fe and San Diego via the route we took.
New Mexico is where my heart is though - esp the northern part from Albuquerque up.

I'm about 24 miles south of Benson, down Highway 90. If you took I-10, you went right past our exit.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Lived in Az. And N.M loved it there, miss it very much! Chako Canyon in N.M. Is interesting especially during equinox, balloon festival in Albuquerque is neat too,so is all the art in Santa Fe! What can I say about the food there? Like I said,I miss those parts! Isn't Benson around the Painted Desert? Been a while, but remember the beauty!

The day before Thanksgiving, my mom found this place in Santa Fe called "Rosa's" that does amazing NM food - we had pork/red chile tamales and beef enchiladas made that morning that were amazing - and my mom did up sopapillas with honey...o...m....g....yum!
Not many folks know what sopapillas are.

We stayed at a cool place in old town Santa Fe, with small cottages---oh crap, can't remember the name of the place, but literally a 5 minute walk to old town.
