DeoxIt, and DeoxIt Fader Lube

I just ordered a spray can of DeoxIt and a bottle of fader lube. I am going to tear in to my dads old stereo system. It is a mid 80's Kenwood "High Fi" Componet system. It has not been used for quite some time. I fired it up today and it cuts out and sounds real scratchy. If you would poke the buttons and turn knobs you could get it to improve but it would eventaully go back to how it was or it would quit putting sound out all together.
I figured I would take each componet appart and give the switches, and knobs a shot of DeoxIt. See if cleaning the contats up would help.
What I was wondering is would you guys also recomend lubing them with DeoxIt's Fader lube. Would it hurt to lubercate the contats say in the trebel, bass, ballance, and volum knob? Or in the selector buttons in the pre?

Fader lube is made for volume, treble, bass, balace pots and should be used there instead of regular DeoxIT."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

DeoxIT d5 will lube and clean everything. You want to spray it in the opening in the controls. Also in what ever crevice the switches have. If the selector or buttons have exposed contacts give them a good spray. After spraying work the control/buttons back and forth to break up the gunk. Respraying after cleaning would not hurt either.

I'm with Face on this one. The Faderlube should be used on the pots. Some of the older pots, such as vintage tube equipment, may use carbon contacts which could be damaged by the solvent in the D5 solution.>

So fader lube on the dials, and DeoxIt on the selector switches. The selector switches have a positive click sound when you press them so it sounds like it should be a mechanical contact. I will have to see when I tear in to it when I get the stuff.
Will the fader lube clean the contacts? Or should I also get the DeoxIt that is 100% solution with no solvent for the the Dials, then lube them with Fader Lube.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808
